There are so many reasons why people get new phones with new numbers. The common one is "My phone broke," at least from my experience. But, what about when it's not broken and/or working properly? What other reasons are there to get a new number? Here are the reasons that my friend and I changed our numbers, even though our phones are working fine.
About 3 weeks ago, I was texting a friend about the next time to hang out, but she never responded, and she never did for the next week and a half. My first thought was that something happened with her phone; last time she didn't respond for a few days, it was because her phone broke and she had to get it fixed. This time, in the middle of my vacation, she texts me with a new phone number. Her phone probably broke again, but it couldn't be fixed this time, or so I thought. When we found a chance to hang out again, she told me the real reason why she got a new phone number: to protect herself.
Ever since my friend and her ex broke up, he had been constantly trying to get back in touch with her. Once his number was blocked, he started calling/texting her from different numbers. It's like no matter how hard she tries, she can never escape from him, which is putting her in a bad position. Though she ignored his texts, most of the time (sometimes she caved in instead of fully ignoring him), it didn't help the situation, she it was time for her to get a new number to allow herself to completely avoid and ignore him.
As for me, I literally only had one reason to change my number: I needed a new phone. When I was a senior in high school, I got a slide phone to use. At the time, as long as I could text people, that was fine with me. I didn't need all the social media that everyone else had. I was content for the most part, until I got to college.
In my first semester, I had a class where my professor wanted to incorporate the use of technology in the classroom, mainly using apps. One app was from which we had to take our weekly quizzes. We could take it on a smartphone or tablet, but I had neither, and that presented a problem. I told him about the situation, so I automatically had first dibs on his daughter's old iPod that had the app on it. I then told my dad about the situation, so that's when I got my Android phone that I still have today, and the new number that came with it.
