Dear 2017:
So as you come to a significant close, I would like to give a huge shoutout to 2017 for not sucking quite as much as 2016. Don’t get me wrong, we are still in a forgiveness and healing period from how badly 2016 hurt us and screwed us over, but 2017 was the rebound we got with after our ex royally did us dirty.
In other words, it wasn’t an awful year, but it could have been better.
Personally, for myself, this year served as a year of reflection, and I appreciated turning over several new leaves in 2017. Life will always continue to have its ups and downs, but the consistency of the year was much appreciated.
In 2017, I think that we all learned an appreciation and certain amount of gratitude for the simpler things in life. I think that we all learned to be grateful for those close to us, and those who respond in times of great need.
It amazed me throughout the year to learn of how quickly a community could come together in times of need --and likewise, how quickly a community could fall apart. This year, our world faced a lot of hard times, but it just proved how rapidly life can change. And also how rapidly we can fix broken hearts, broken lives, and broken cities. We still have a long way to go, but I think that even those who abused their powers in 2017, will find their sins catching up to them in 2018.
With every year, new opportunities come and go, and relationships and friendships flourish or fail. So for 2018, my positive hopes for those around me are that we celebrate our little victories and our larger than life dreams.
As for 2017, my warmest regards to this chapter coming to a close. Thanks for calling out powerful people who suck --here’s to doing more of that in the coming year!
Happy New Year!
