Life is full of ups and downs, but that’s the way it has to be. Nobody really goes through life without having any miscues. There’s no such thing as fairy tales and happy endings don’t always exist.
Every now and then, we hope something spectacular happens. But while we wait for the universe to send us good news, the universe proves it has better things to do and we’re left wondering what could have been. You’d be hard-pressed to find me something that sucks more than when something that looks good in theory turns out to be a complete bust.
So yes, our day-to-day routines are bound to have at least some let downs along the way.
But if everything were simple, life would be pretty abysmally boring, and sometimes getting knocked down is a positive.
As part of the generation notorious for “first-world problems,” I admit sometimes I blow inconveniences out of proportion. It doesn’t make us bad people; it’s just a reflection of technology’s influence in society.
But things like that shouldn’t make or break a day. And even if they do, in most cases it’s just a bad day, not a bad life.
Setbacks are guaranteed to happen, but they’re not always terrible occurrences. Now, I don’t mean to insinuate that major setbacks are something to sneeze at. Serious things like getting fired or missing out on a life-changing opportunity seldom come with positives. But minor unfortunate events are littered with silver linings. We just need to find them.
Small things like having a love interest that goes nowhere or losing an opportunity sting at first. It can seem like someone has it out for us, but once you take a step back and look at the bigger picture, things can get clearer.
Once you step back and stop looking at a situation from one strict, finite point of view, there are a litany of ways to interpret a situation. There’s usually something better on the horizon that’s sparingly visible. But there’s no doubt it’s coming.
Perhaps that’s just an optimistic way of examining life, but if something doesn’t work out then it’s simply not meant to be. That's okay, though. Not everything is going to work out.
The constant movement that comes from being a college-aged person features a myriad of changeover. New experiences are bountiful, so one setback doesn't spell the end.
The aforementioned movement can feel like a whirlwind, however, and disappointment makes the sensation even more unique and confusing.
It feels like you’re getting pulled back, but sometimes the pull back is like a slingshot, and it’s only a matter of time before you’re propelled to great things.
It may take a while to see the aftermath of a setback come to fruition, but waiting isn't necessarily the worst thing in the world.
Sometimes you get what you want, sometimes you don’t and you get something better and sometimes you wait and get what’s best.
