1.) Friends
Follow Chandler Monica, Rachel, Ross, Joey, and Phoebe as they hilariously navigate through adulthood. The show focuses on the 6 friends' love lives, careers, and families. I love watching this show because it never fails to make me smile. Friends is the television show equivalent to comfort food: easy and enjoyable to consume! Currently available on Netflix.
2.) The Handmaid's Tale
Set in a society where women are second to men, June Osbourne struggles to survive and, ultimately, reunite with her daughter. This dramatic and thrilling series had me sitting on the edge of my seat throughout every episode. The characters and plot are so well developed that I am not surprised the show snagged two Golden Globes in 2018. Currently available on Hulu.
3.) New Girl
One of the only shows that actually makes me laugh out loud. Similar to the show "Friends", the show follows the lives of a group of young adults sharing an apartment. New Girl shares a unique feminist perspective to viewers through the main character, Jess. Currently available to watch on Netflix.
4.) The Bachelor(ette)/ Bachelor in Paradise
The Bachelor/Bachelorette is the show that seems to be everyone's guilty pleasure. The intense fights between contestants, the romantic, expensive dates, and the infamous rose ceremonies are what draw viewers back to their couch every Monday night to watch the most famous and popular dating show. Currently available to watch on abc.com.
5.) The Office (U.S)
"The Office" contrasts a mundane work life with the hilarity of the workers. Dwight Shrute, the local beet farmer, Michael Scott, the ignorant and racist boss, and Kelly Kapoor, the customer service rep drama queen, are only a few of the strange, yet hysterical characters on the show. If you don't already work in an office environment, beware: this show makes it look like a dream and you will be tempted to work in one. Currently available to watch on Netflix.
6.) The Office (U.K)
Yes, the British Office is just as good as the American one. After only watching a couple of episodes, I can promise that Ricky Gervais, the screenwriter who also plays the main character on the show, will have you laughing out loud. Currently available to watch on Hulu.
7.) Jailbirds
"Jailbirds" is a documentary series following the day-to-day life of women in the Sacramento County Jail. The show sheds light on the bleak life behind bars and the struggles that inmates have to face each day. With only one season with six episodes, the show is worth a watch.
8.) Black Mirror
Each episode speaking to the potential dangers of technology, "Black Mirror" has caught the world by storm. The writer, Charlier Brooker, cleverly creates scenarios that test characters and, similarly viewers, leaving the audience feeling creeped out and in shock. Currently available to watch on Netflix.
