As we get older, every day we see more and more bad things happen. Yet we don’t really see people trying to stop the bad things. Yes, we see government officials try and create more laws to stop things, but how often do criminals really listen to the laws anyway. Let’s think about this. There are people who follow the laws, and there are those who do not. But there is a third group in there that people normally forget. That group is the fence sitters. They are as close to breaking the law as one can be without actually doing so. These are the people who want laws to change. They try and get what they want by changing laws. These people will at some point crack and cross the line, but if they can move the line then they never have to break a law.
Of course the largest of the group are those who do not break the law. Of course, they long to keep everyone safe. Yes, it would be nice if it were possible but in the end we all know bad things will at some point happen and the best thing we can do is to learn from them. Yet every day when I turn on the news there really isn’t any learning happening. Within the last several weeks there have been so many things happening that one would think the world would learn from, but no. Good people think that bad happens only once in a while. Bad people, on the other hand, are out to make things bad for those that are good. Yet, we as a people fail to see this. We hope and think that good will happen just by some famous people starting campaigns and people donating money to groups. But sadly, those things will fade and we will forget again until it happens again. When it happens, we will talk so much about this could have been avoided with some new version of an old law. Then we will bring up all that happened in the past with similar incidents hoping to change the way the world is running. They will change the law again and limit good people a little more. Then bad people will continue to do what they have done since that start of the world. How about as all this bad stuff happens, let’s stop trying to limit good people and start to remember exactly what happened and how to fix that.
