Going For A Run, As Told By Phoebe Buffay

Going For A Run, As Told By Phoebe Buffay

In regards to running, there are several different types of people. There are those that absolutely loathe running and avoid it at all costs, those that run because they know that it’s good for them and occasionally enjoy it, and there are also those few lone souls that love to run with everything that they have. As the weather warms up, you may be tempted to fall into that second group as you begin to see others running around you. Here are 10 things that happen whenever you go for a run.

1. A lot of the time, running tends to be a solo activity.

Because when you ask your friends if they want to come running with you, they just look at you and laugh.

2. Because there's no one coming with you, it's up to you to find the motivation to go.

You know that once you get out there it’ll be fine, but man, taking a nap sounds wonderful right about now.

3. You have to decide what to wear.

Especially in the spring, deciding how many layers to wear is crucial. One too many, and you’ll be drenched in sweat and very uncomfortable. Forget a layer, and it’ll take you 30 minutes to thaw out afterwards.

4. You have to find the right music station.

Whether you use Spotify or another music service, making sure that your playlist is on point is absolutely crucial. There’s nothing worse than sprinting up a big hill, only to have “Let Her Go” by Passenger start playing. Mood music is key.

5. Planning a route is your next step.

Do you want trails and a little bit of nature? Or perhaps a sidewalk with some road activity? Being able to choose a different route every day makes running anything but mundane.

6. You know there's no one way to decide how long or how far to run.

It really just depends on what you want to do. But you also know that saying you're going for a five mile run is much easier than actually going for that five mile run.

7. Even though it's tough, powering through is usually worth it!

This separates the weak from the strong.

8. You know that everyone runs a little bit differently.

If you're running in a public place, be ready for the stares that are coming your way.

Especially if you decide to walk for a second.

9. Getting through those last few minutes will be the worst part of your day.

By this point your lungs, calves, and thighs are on fire. You're so close to being done, but the end feels so far away.

10. There's no feeling quite like that post-run sweat.

After all of that hard work, once you're able to sit down, it's like you're on top of the world.

You'll be so glad that you did push through.

11. Though you may swear of running the moment you get back in the door, eventually, you’ll probably find yourself out there again sometime soon.

At the end of every run, make sure to enjoy the pride and sweat that comes along with going for a run.

You did it!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
