One of my favorite worship songs right now is "God’s Not Done with You" by Tauren Wells. Whenever something tests my faith and tests who I am as a person, that’s usually the song I turn to for some comfort, and it’s a song that I think everyone should turn to.
Life throws us obstacles sometimes that often seem too much to handle. It often leaves us wondering, why God? Why did this have to happen? Why me?
As people, we can’t understand why something so hard and so trying can happen to us. We often get so mixed up in our own suffering that we forget that there’s a plan so much bigger than the tiny picture frame we’re looking at, and that’s where the true pain comes from. For the longest time I suffered alone. I didn’t understand what it meant to give my worries to God, and even as I began to, I couldn’t understand why he would allow me to get hurt over and over. But then, I began stumbling onto some Scripture that really stuck with me: Romans 8.
Romans 8 is such a great chapter to turn to if you’re having trouble remembering that God has a plan for everyone. I first started reading it when I struggled with depression and a lack of self-confidence. I never felt like I had a purpose in life, until I started reading that chapter every day. There’s a lot of truth in it, but to me, the most encouraging is verse 18. “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”
Wow, that’s powerful. Now, let’s connect that with 1 Peter 4:13, “But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when His glory is revealed.” Wowza, that’s even more powerful. God gives us obstacles that often feel hard, or too much to handle because He wants us to turn to Him for strength just as Christ did when He died for us. Because we believe in an awesome God and His amazing Lamb, we will go through trials that often seem too much, but it’s never over. God’s not done with you. He knows what you’re going to go through before you can even imagine going through a situation ten times worse than the one He gives you. He knows that you won’t be able to handle the situation that He gives you without Him, and that’s something that we often forget.
Our struggles are not meant to be fought alone. No matter what you’re going through, a breakup, depression, abuse, or just anything as simple as a bad day, God is giving you a chance to run to Him. He gives you a chance to see exactly who He is and what He is capable of, but you just have to turn to Him first.
I learned that the best thing to do in times of suffering is to embrace God with open arms and remember that God’s not done with you. You’re suffering is not a punishment, it is a test, an example, and a sign of love. A sign of confidence. God trusts you and you should trust Him. God is never done with you.
