I cried out to You last night, God. I asked you to make sense of everything I was going through and to direct me to which path I should take. I don't have all of the answers--that's Your job, right?
But I woke up this morning, and nothing had changed. My life is still a mess. I have no idea which way to turn or who can help me now. It's not fair. You said that when I called to You, You would answer, and You failed me. Where are you, God?
If only you could see the plan.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6.
From the earth, we see life as a mixed up, messed up series of events that don't make sense. And sometimes, those events are what we like to see, and other times, we feel like the universe is out to get us.
But if you take a walk in God's shoes for a moment, you would see that the hardships that are taking place are only taking place for your benefit. I am not going to pretend that I know the reasons for God's actions--why certain people are taken from this earth and why others get to stay, or why certain people live their lives in terrible situations and others in pure luxury, but I can assure you that if you have faith, it won't matter why it is all happening. It won't matter because you will have faith that whatever is happening can be solved, whatever He is up to is for a reason, and whatever you are going through is meant to be.
And you won't have to know the "whys" and "hows."
Faith is the ability to go forward with something or to trust in something without knowing the whole picture, and that is basically what our lives on earth are--a series of events leading to an end result that we may never see or that will eventually make sense.
Faith is one of those things that requires stamina, courage and belief. It doesn't just come naturally. And I can say that I, too, struggle with it.
It's when we can rely on something greater than us to solve our problems, that we no longer have problems. Yes, the problems will still exist, but they won't be viewed as problems in your eyes anymore. Instead, you will see each obstacle as an opportunity to move forward in the greater path of life.
I'm right there with you. It's so easy to place the blame of the terrible things on God. After all, He controls the universe. But what if you took the blame off His shoulders and instead trusted that whatever happened happened for a reason? And that that reason does not really matter because He is in control of your life, and that is one heck of a force to have on your side.
So, instead of asking "Where are you, God?" in your next hardship, try asking "Where are you, faith?"
And then trust in that faith to carry you through.
