Being raised Catholic, my religion has taught me that my worth is found in God alone. Although, I have held myself back from taking many ‘risks’ in life believing just the opposite. I held myself from living the most authentic life I can based off of other peoples opinions. FAITH IS BIGGER THAN FEAR. I have faith that regardless of the Catholic guilt that I possess God is bigger, better and stronger than any of my fears. This article is based on colored hair but can be taken in more general terms. Whatever sin that we carry on our shoulders, maybe in this case literally, we have to remember that “there is more mercy in Christ than there is sin in us.”
I believe that God is merciful but in this case, his mercy is unneeded, I don’t believe that unnaturally colored hair is a sin. However, I held myself back from dying my hair due to a Catholic retreat I planned to attend. Before the conference, I asked a chaperone if it was inappropriate if I dyed my hair an unnatural red, her answer was “to pray about it.” I’m not going to lie I was hurt by her response, but it sparked my curiosity. Is it against Christianity to dye your hair?
Overall, I have come to the conclusion that, it's true, our outward appearance should not completely consume our lives. How we look on the outside should in no way be more important than our inner beauty. If you care more about how you look or your prejudices against how other people look, rather than how you treat others, then maybe you should check your priorities. Dyed hair is such a small aspect of who people are. Even though it may be seen as completely inappropriate to some religious people, it isn't to me. It is our kindness, love, generosity, compassion, forgiveness, etc. that shows our true beauty-- not what hair color we have.
