Drop Everything You're Doing And Go Eat At McGurk's

First of all, this post is #notsponsored. (If only, right?)

So my mom and I stumbled upon this establishment as a complete accident. We had planned on doing the free Anheuser Busch tour, and because we're true blue Missourians, we've have run out of things to do here so now we're acting like tourists. My mom has always loved anything to do with Ireland or Scotland so this place seemed to be a good choice. They have a little parking lot down the street along with street parking, but I suggest the parking lot. MUCH easier than driving around trying to find a spot.

Anyway...

This has got to be the cutest restaurant I've ever seen in STL. If you've ever been to Disney Springs in Florida and eaten at the Raglan's Pub, then you'll love this place. As you walk up to the building, they have some pub type music playing through speakers on the street, which is a quality touch. We sat outside by the fountain, surrounded by flowers, listening to the splashing of the fountain and aimless chatter of other patrons, and I knew this place would become a favorite.

So anyone who knows me knows I kind of hate salads. I mean, what's the point? I'm just not a huge fan of the whole vegetable thing, so the thought of throwing 10 types of vegetables in a bowl and covering it with a faux healthy cream concoction and stale bread has never appealed to me. But I was trying to eat vegetarian for a day (in hopes of understanding a few of my friends better when we go out to eat) so I gave one a shot.

THIS SALAD.

It's called the mixed green salad and I have never, EVER, cleaned a salad plate before. It has dried cranberries, toasted walnuts, gorgonzola cheese crumbles and a roasted garlic vinaigrette. IS YOUR MOUTH WATERING YET? I swear, I could eat just this salad for the rest of my life and never complain. My mom adores salad and she got the baby spinach salad, which she also loved as much as I loved mine. I, unfortunately, didn't get photos of either because I was too busy shoveling it into my mouth.

Doesn't this look BOMB. Jessica Prowell

I also got their grilled cheese, which has four (!!!!) kinds of cheese, tomatoes and grilled onions (I got it with onions because there's only so many veggies I can handle in a day). LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING. I'm harshly lactose intolerant so I only ate half the sandwich that I severely regretted later, but boy was it worth it. They also have house-made potato chips and I think I'm tearing up a little bit thinking about it. My mom got a burger that she said was super amazing, but I stuck with my vegetarian-ness for the day and didn't try it.

There are two locations: downtown Saint Louis (over in Soulard, this is where we went) and O'Fallon. I'm definitely going there again and I can't wait to try their dinner menu.

ALSO; They have live music. HOW CUTE?? I die.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
