6 Things You Should Do This Summer Before Going Back to School

Summer, the time you look forward to during the whole school year, but then when it comes around you find yourself bored as heck! (Ironic isn't it…?) Here are 6 things to do this summer before it hits August and you have to hit the books again.

1. Go to the beach, the pool, the lake… just get out in the sun!!

Catch those rays while you can! Showing up to campus in August with some sun kissed skin is an instant confidence booster, and who doesn't want to feel great in their skin while strutting campus? Plus, once the semester gets busy, your sun bathing time that you have so much of now will be significantly less.

2. Spend time with your fam

Giphy

It can be so tempting during these summer months to always be out and about with friends, but don't forget the fam! Whether you are living with them for the summer or not, make time for a couple family dinners. (You'll be glad you did.)

3. Save money!!

Giphy

If I have learned one thing since coming to college, it is that I spend way more money than I had anticipated. So, why not get a head start and save up some extra cash for the semester.

4. Make some good summer playlists

Giphy

I have made a summer playlist every year since 2017 and I wish I had made them before then too! Every time I hit 'shuffle' on one of these old playlists it is a total throwback to that year and the fun times I had. How cool would it be if we can look back in 10 years to the songs we were listening to on different particular summers!!

5. Get some you-time

Giphy

During the semester, I am constantly around other people, so having alone time was basically eliminated completely. Don't get me wrong, I love being around people, but you don't know how much you enjoy chilling by yourself every once and a while until its not really a thing anymore.

You can probably guess the same will happen in the years to come too, so while you are at home, soak up all the alone time you have with yourself and read a book, listen to a good podcast, or just take a bath! (The dorm bathrooms definitely do not have baths and neither do most college apartments…)

6. Binge clean and organize

Giphy

While you are home, you have all of your stuff in one place, so go through it all and donate or throw away all of the items you realized you never use! I, for one, realized while I was living in a dorm that I can survive with significantly less stuff than I have back at home.

So whether you are home for a week, or the whole 3 months of summer, try adding in these 6 to-dos. Come August and "hustle time," you will be glad you did!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
