In the opening sequence, mean girl and Kappa Kappa Tau president, Chanel Oberlin, describes how sororities are seen as exclusive and a class system. She warns, “Guess what… Life is a class system.”
The best television show this fall is, without a doubt, "Scream Queens." It is the newest creation from Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan, who have previously produced hit shows, "Glee" and "American Horror Story." "Scream Queens" is a blend of those two shows. It has the gore and suspense of "AHS" as well as the witty humor and outrageous characters that were showcased in "Glee."
The cast includes "American Horror Story" alum Emma Roberts, "Glee" star Lea Michele, and many other famous actors like Abigail Breslin, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ariana Grande and Nick Jonas.
The story is centered on the fictional sorority Kappa Kappa Tau. In 1995, they experienced the careless death of a sister during a party. Now, the daughter of KKT alumna, Grace, is determined to pledge the sorority and follow in her deceased mother’s footsteps. Despite her father who begs her not to join a sorority.
She convinces her roommate ZayDay Williams, portrayed by Keke Palmer, to rush the sorority along with her. After they meet Chanel, and her disciples Chanel #2, Chanel #3, and Chanel #5, Grace decides that she wants to dethrone her and create a real sisterhood in KKT with ZayDay as President.
The school’s new Dean Munch, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, confronts Chanel about the violations KKT has made over the years and threatens to revoke their chapter. Then, Gigi Caldwell, President of the National Chapter of KKT, comes to KKT’s rescue and to stop Dean Munch, who self-admittedly hates sororities.
As a result, the Dean declares that Kappa must allow anyone who wants to be a member to become a pledge. Chanel realizes that this will endanger her popularity and “relationship” with rich boyfriend Chad Radwell. They are now forbidden from picking pretty, rich, and popular girls to be pledges and are now stuck with a group of ragamuffins “affectionately” called Deaf Taylor Swift, Neckbrace, and Predatory Lez.
Then, after a death in the house that the sisters and pledges witness Chanel assures everyone that “secrets are the glue that binds sorority sisters together.” The ball starts rolling after that incident and the “Red Devil” comes for character after character. Every week he/she/them kills another character. Meanwhile, the Kappas and Dean Munch try to find out who is behind it all.
The suspense, comedy, and over-the-top style of "Scream Queens" has made it a must-watch show especially, for fans of "AHS" and "Glee."
