10 Things That Anyone With Glasses Can Relate To

Because a day without your glasses is a day filled with shadows -- literally.

I have used glasses almost every day for more than 6 years, and I must say that even though they provide me with great comfort, not everyone can relate to my experiences.

Here are 10 things that anyone with glasses can relate to:

1. Cooking is not your thing.

It doesn't matter if you're just boiling an egg or baking a cake, as soon as the steam hits your face you can't see anything in front of you.

2. 3D movies are not meant for you.

If my options are either waiting an hour for a 2D movie or watching the 3D version, I'll wait for one hour. After all, watching movies should be a fun experience and I don't see the need to struggle with a pair of glasses that were clearly not designed for people that have to wear glasses. However, if you do manage to place the 3D goggles on top of your glasses, you realize that you look ridiculous.

3. Getting a new pair of glasses is the best feeling ever

When you get your newly prescribed glasses you feel like you have been living in the shadows for your whole life, and you start to look around for the things that you were unable to see before.

4. Rainy days are not your favorite days.

Even though you might like rain, rain doesn't like you. There is nothing worse than having to walk to an unknown place during a rainy day without an umbrella. First, you'll have a hard time while trying to identify the place from the distance; and then the rain will only help you to make you feel even more uncomfortable.

5. Every time you take your glasses off people say you look different -- even weird.

Again, I wasn't born with glasses and there are times in which I prefer to take them off.

6. Every time you go to the doctor, your vision is worse than the year before.

Honestly, how is that even possible? I thought that my glasses were supposed to help me, and as it turns out for the first couple of years your vision will only get worst.

7. Humidity is your worst enemy.

Ever experience getting out of a car when suddenly your glasses fog up? You are not the only one.

8. People don't get why you take your glasses off for pictures.

Let me just clarify, that I wear glasses out of necessity, not pleasure; and there are times in which I prefer not to wear them, especially if it's due to a picture.

9. You don't understand why people wear fake glasses for pictures.

There is no need to pretend.

10. You can't properly function without them.

Your glasses are the number one thing that you can't leave behind. Without out them, you're pretty much blind. You can't drive, you can barely distinguish people from afar and after a while, your head will start to hurt.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
