Dear soulmate,
Hi there. I don't know if I've met you yet or not, but what a curious thing it would be if you ever stumble across this. In the event that you do, I'd like to say a few things that - while it could possibly frustrate you - I feel needs to be said.
As of this moment, I am a senior in college, expected to graduate in a few months. Quickly following that, I will be looking for and will hopefully begin my career. I will be focused on my job, my passion, just as I have been for the past couple years of my life.
I won't be focused on finding you.
That's not to say I don't want to. I do want to fall in love, someday or somehow. And that's not to say that before I meet you that I won't already have. You may not be the first or even the second. But I won't be looking for you anytime soon. Not actively, at least. And I don't expect you to wait up for me, either.
2017 looms before me as I write this letter. I know many out there who's resolutions include finding love or opening themselves up to relationships, and that's great for them. But, in contrast, my resolutions include not finding love but finding success. My resolutions include living another year of my life has happy as I can be. And right now, happiness means finishing college, getting my degree and starting my career. Happiness means maintaining the friendships I have, perhaps making new ones, and keeping myself grounded.
My happiness, as of right now, does not include finding you. Not yet, anyway.
But if it so happens that I meet you in 2017, I will be convinced that I met you at that time for a reason, and I will be happy to have met you. And if you are the soulmate that fate has planned for me, I hope that you'll understand that this drive that I have to succeed - that I have to be happy - is what is most important to me right now.
Happy New Year, love. I wish the best for both of us.
Always,
Your soulmate
