Thanksgiving often gets overlooked by many people. Nobody thinks it is a very big or important holiday. Maybe that is because it is so close to Christmas, but it should still not get overlooked. Here are some reasons you should appreciate Thanksgiving a little more.

1.  Good food

This is a whole holiday dedicated to eating which is an American's dream. You get to eat as much as you want, and nobody judges you for it. There's always so much good home cooked food that you get to enjoy, from the turkey to the mashed potatoes to the cranberry sauce. The food alone is enough to be thankful for.

 2. The parade

It is always fun to wake up and watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in the morning. There are a lot of cool parade floats and performances by today's most popular artists, and performances by cheerleaders and dancers, including the Rockettes.

 3.  Quality time with the people you love

Thanksgiving allows you to spend a day off to have quality time with the people that you love. You get to appreciate being with your friends and family and have everyone together for a meal. Having friends and family and people that you care about in your life is a reason to be thankful.

 4.  Fall weather

The cool weather makes this holiday feel even more like Thanksgiving. The cool air and the fallen leaves make the weather feel like fall and that is how you know that it is really Thanksgiving.

 5. Black Friday

The day after Thanksgiving comes black Friday, the day when every store in America has massive sales for everyone to start their Christmas shopping. It is the kickoff to the Christmas season and is what makes it really feel like the holidays are among us.

 6. Family traditions

It seems that during the holidays every family has some sort of family tradition during the holidays, whether it be the breaking of the wishbone or going around the table and saying the things you are thankful for, it can even be as simple as your distant relatives coming over, but every family has their traditions.

 7. Being thankful for the things you have

Thanksgiving gives us a time to reflect on the things that we have that we are grateful for. It shows us how grateful we should be for the little things, like a roof over our head, food on our plate, and family to spend the holidays with.

 8. No school/work

Not having school or work during the holidays is something to be thankful for. It is nice to take the time to relax and catch up with loved ones.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
