How Little Girls ACTUALLY Feel About Christmas

This is the most riveting interview I've ever done.

Christmas is all about the kids. Santa, the presents, the traditions – it all pretty much revolves around the little ones. They're also usually the most passionate about the holiday.

Because of this, I decided to ask my little sister Mariselle, 10, and her friend Avery, 11, a few questions about their views on ~the most wonderful time of the year~. I got some fun answers. (My two interviewees were play wrestling the whole time they answered.)

What are you asking for this year?

Avery: "A jar of peanut butter and some bread all to myself, a puppy–" "Which she asks for every Christmas," my sister interrupts. They both giggle. "And I think I want a new phone because mine won't hold a charge."

Mariselle: "A bunch of Harry Potter stuff, a bunch of candles. I like candles because they smell good."

Is Christmas your favorite holiday?

Both: "Yes."

Why?

Avery: "Because the candy and the presents and the... I don't know! Mostly that. If my birthday was a holiday it might be [my favorite], but probably Christmas because of all the food. And my mom makes sugar cookies."

Mariselle: "Because I just love Christmas." I tell her that's not a real reason. She responds with, "I don't need a reason to love Christmas!"

What's the first thing you think when you wake up on Christmas morning?

Avery: "Are my parents up yet? Because if my parents are up that means we can open presents, but if they're not that means I have to wake them up."

Mariselle: "It's Christmas!"

How early do you normally wake up on Christmas morning?

Avery: "I actually get up earlier on Christmas than I do on any other day. On a normal weekend I'll wake up at 8 at the earliest, and on Christmas, I wake up at 8 at the latest."

Mariselle: "Me too."

Do you think you like Christmas better than your siblings?

Avery: "I like Christmas more than my brother." I ask her why. "I don't like my brother. I like Christmas way better than my older sister." I don't think she understood the question.

What's your favorite Christmas song?

Avery: "Frosty the Snowman or Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Because Frosty is awesome and Rudolph is awesome. That's why I like them!"

Mariselle: "Winter Wonderland. Because snow is awesome."

Have you ever tried to catch Santa in the act?

Mariselle: "No."
Avery: "No."
Why not?
Mariselle: "Because he's not real."

That wasn't the answer I was expecting.

If you celebrate Christmas, have a good one. And have as many interactions with as many kids as you can.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
