Recently, the political world has been blowing up about many different situations. Situations that deserve to be brought to attention. Situations that deserve to be explained and reasonably discussed. From protests to riots to getting offended over statues, everything causes an unnecessary problem that is not worthy of a headline.
First of all, what happened in Charlottesville was tragic, disrespectful and un-American in every sense. As a conservative and a Republican, the actions of the alt-right do not align with my beliefs or those of my party. These are extremists who have not realized the true meaning of being a conservative or of being an American. The actions of these people are unacceptable and uncalled for.
With that being said, there was also, as there has been in the past, violence from the other side. But no one says that because this was a perfect excuse to defame and misjudge the right for being all of the horrible labels given to this side of the aisle… racists, bigots, misogynists or just plain evil. What the other side fails to see is that these labels cannot be applied to everyone who identifies as conservative. Nor does it define those who voted for Trump.
Sure, call me a racist or anything else you can think of for saying that but it’s the truth. And no one likes to accept it because the left preaches love and equality for all but yet treat anyone who disagrees with them like trash. And they refuse to live up to it when they are called out. The president was right in saying violence comes from both sides. Everyone knows it, he just had the nerve to say it out loud. As he should, because people obviously listen to him… We’ve been talking about his comments for weeks now.
The other problem I see with these situations is the fact that everyone seems to turn to POTUS and blame him for what’s going on. I’m sorry, but I believe that to be completely uncalled for. He came out against the beliefs and condemned the hatred that came from the alt-right, yet still people found something to complain about. He can never say or do the right thing because someone always has something in response.
In every one of these situations people seem to need someone to blame and they always seem to pick the president. Well if that’s the case, let’s blame the deaths of the cops last year on Obama. Let’s blame all the horrible shootings and tragedies that occurred while Obama was in office on him. Does that make any sort of sense? But if anyone were to ever blame Obama… well, they’re a racist I guess.
Most of the left must be in denial as to what happened in the previous years under the former administration. If you look at the basis of all of these problems, they have been building up from issues occurring over the past eight years. People of color, immigrants and everyone who is not white was thrown a pity party and felt victimized because our previous president made them feel that way. So if anything, Obama divided this country more than anything, creating a split that unwillingly came into this new administration.
The other hot topic that I have seen on the news is the case against Confederate statues. Why is this all of the sudden bothering people when these statues have been there for years? How does a statue hurt you?
History has changed party lines throughout the years. The left fails to understand that the “racists, slave owning people of the South” were democrats. But with societal changes and differing views, the parties have switched, naturally. Society evolves, therefore politics evolve. So who do they have to blame but themselves? And why do you feel the need to take down a block of marble? It is history. It may have been terrible and the people the statues represent may have had views that are frowned upon today, but that does not take away from what they did and what happened. There is not going back in time to change it or to stop what happened.
Why are we going to try and erase the events and history that has shaped and evolved this country? These statues serve as reminders to what happened for two reasons. One, so we can be reminded as to how far this country has come. And two, so history does not repeat itself. It’s ridiculous to be offended by a statue because what happened in the past indirectly hurts your feelings.
Let’s find more important things to discuss and work on improving. Things that affect us all as humans, no matter what side we identify with. Things like health care, tax reform, border security… other things that affect humanity and the safety and security of Americans. Why are we discussing a statue when we should be discussing our status as one of the most powerful countries in the world? Let’s get our priorities straight.
