I am in no way basic. I don't like Pumpkin Spice Latte's, or even coffee for that matter. I don't even like the smell or scent of pumpkin anything to be honest. I don't own a pair of Ugg boots, I don't think they're cute. If my hair is in a bun and I'm wearing leggings, I'm either sick or going to the gym. I don't like bath's, so I've never used a bath bomb in my life. I don't have time to learn how to make my eyebrows "on fleek," and I don't own a pair of white converse, because they'd get dirty in 3 minutes flat.
However, I love twitter.
I love stalking the crap out of famous people, posting hilarious quotes from my friends, tagging my best friend in picture of something she likes, and making meme references. I freaking LOVE twitter. But what I don't love is all these basic tweets littering my precious timeline.
What tweets am I talking about? Here we go.
This tweet was posted with the caption "Can a guy please talk about me like this," and it makes my blood boil. First of all, this isn't even that cute. Its one sentence, he's saying he fell in love with her smile and he didn't even capitalize the first word of the sentence or use a period. Second of all, A guy probably does talk about you like this. I can almost promise you that some amazing man out there finds you to be the light of his life and he would write a song, scream it from the roof tops, and kiss everything you touched, but you're too busy looking for the boy who just thinks your smile is beautiful, instead of being open to the man who finds you to be perfection.
I'm going to explain why this tweet makes my insides scream in a way that a basic person may relate; With a quote by Kourtney Kardashian: "Kim, there are people dying." There are people starving in this country, and you "need" a phone case that looks like a juice box. You don't need a phone case that can attach to the mirror to film you doing your contour, you want it. The differences between a need and a want is that you NEED certain things to survive, like food and water and shelter. You don't need a phone case that doubles as a wallet. Get it right, because some people would kill for a sink like the one in your bathroom that actually provides clean water every time they turn it on.
Girls chase the wrong boys because tweets like these exist. These tweets make girls have high expectations. Everybody loves differently. Just because the boy you're talking too doesn't text you that you looked beautiful today, doesn't mean he didn't think you were beautiful. I promise he showed it to you in a different way that you didn't even notice, because you wanted him to say it to you. Just because a boy doesn't take you to dinner all dressed up doesn't mean he doesn't care about you. Don't expect boys to do the things you see online. Don't even have expectations for a boy. Once you do that, I promise he will blow you out of the water.
It's not that I don't like people who classify themselves as basic, or even like "basic" things. It's that the things that are skewed across my timeline are shallow, wrong, and need correcting. Its that I worry that these girls who are searching for something will end up in a bad relationship. Its that I wonder where the lesson of selflessness got lost in translation in the upbringings of my peers. Do you, fam, but at least realize that there's more to life than just you.
