Genetically Mutilated Eggs, Digital, 1024x624 pixels
I used an online digital media program called mr.doob/harmony to create this piece. The app is free and allows one to experiment with digital art, especially if you have no technology experience at all like me. In today's society, the Internet has made a great deal of influence and has affected us all, so it only makes sense that art is taking the same turn as well.
The robotic monster that is the main subject of this piece serves as the subject references modern society. There is a sense of fear and caution in delving into this moderately new medium, and I wanted to create a piece with digital media that alluded to both that fear and innovation as well. The ellipses in the foreground, middleground, and background represent eggs, symbolizing the birth of a new age, the digital age that we live in. The bright yellow background against the blue lines also allude to the bright blue monitor screen of our computers. This piece is not strictly criticizing the digital presence in our lives, but it also is a reaction to its effects in our daily lives.
My art is expressive, and I try to make it as relevant as I can to how I feel in the moment. The importance of technology and communication via text has taken even more of a dominant role in my life here at college. There is always the impending question in the back of my mind every day: What is the point of all the digital media that I engage in? Is there really any reason or good use of time in finding the best emoji to send out of the 184 set of new emojis?
The question of whether the physical world we live in is more important than the digital world that we engage in is seemingly easy to answer; of course, to live in the moment, and to enjoy what you can actually see has its benefits. However, the digital world can be a pivotal factor and benefit as well, given that we find the right ways to use it.
