Disney may be known for its simple plots, love stories, and well-known musical numbers, but have you ever considered mashing it up with HBO's Game of Thrones? They both have interesting conflicts, princesses, and exciting storylines! After rewatching the first season of Game of Thrones, I decided to pair eight of the characters with songs from Disney movies. After reading this list, you'll want to see these mashups played on screen with all of your favorite characters. Warning: If you haven't watched Game of Thrones yet, just know that there will be spoilers featured in this article for all of the seasons thus far. This isn't a spoiler free zone, folks.
1. Daenerys Targaryen
When I first thought of this list, my mind immediately started with "How Far I'll Go" from Moana. All of the characters travel long distances to get to their destinations, but the one character who has traveled the farthest is Daenerys. She has traveled land and sea to conquer the Iron Throne. I think this song is incredibly fitting for her journey so far.
2. Jon Snow
Jon Snow has had it rough. He started out as a bastard, went to the Wall, became Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, was betrayed by the men who followed him, killed, then he was brought back to life and immediately had to start fighting once again. If anyone is a hero in this story, it's Jon Snow. He has truly gone the distance as a character, which makes this next song truly fitting! Jon Snow's personal ballad would be "Go the Distance" from Hercules.
3. Brienne of Tarth
Brienne is one of the strongest women in Game of Thrones. She is firm in her beliefs, and she does not conform to society's view of women during this time. She continues to push herself to be the best that she can be, and through her examples of loyalty, she shows that being a female does not mean that she cannot be fierce. For a strong female character, Brienne deserves a song that is not only motivational but an incredible piece of music as well. Here is "I'll Make a Man Out of You" from Mulan.
4. Sansa Stark
Sansa Stark has had quite the character arc throughout Game of Thrones. I'll use one of my favorite quotes from the book to describe her character arc: "My skin has turned to porcelain, to ivory, to steel." This quote is an example of how tough she has become through the many difficult situations she has faced within the series. The first song that came to mind for Sansa is "Almost There" from The Princess and the Frog. "There's been trials and tribulations, you know I've had my share. But I've climbed the mountain, I've crossed the river and I'm almost there!" This song is about succeeding with hard work, dedication, and patience. Sansa has shown all three of these characteristics throughout her journey.
5. Cersei Lannister
Cersei Lannister is not only a queen but a mother as well. Unfortunately, all of her children have died. Her advice never seemed to help her children during the long run, but she did try to always have the best judgments for her family, even if they were a bit manipulative. So, because of her cunning ways, the song that I've chosen for Cersei Lannister is "Mother Knows Best" from Tangled.
6. Arya Stark
Mulan is a movie that is truly empowering. Arya Stark was a breath of fresh air when she was introduced due to her strong will, courage, and spunk. She's comparable to Mulan, who went against the societal norms of her society even if it meant drifting far away from her family. The song that truly reminds me of Arya the most is "Reflection" from Mulan.
7. Theon Greyjoy
Theon is a character I have a ton of sympathy for. He was captured and tortured emotionally and physically. Even though he has endured a lot of pain, he still manages to be strong. Theon is a complex character which makes him one of the most interesting characters in this series. The song that I've chosen for Theon is "Strangers Like Me" from Tarzan. I think this song truly shows how Theon has managed to make his way back to his family, and it shows how he can be just as strong as he was before.
8. Samwell Tarly
This song is a little broody for our next character, but I still think it's a pretty good fit. Samwell Tarly is one of the best guys in this series. He's loyal, funny, kind and an absolute hero. Sam has had a hard time finding a place where he truly belongs. I think this song truly helps explain some of the emotions that Sam has a hard time expressing. While he tends to be an optimist, I think he has moments where he wonders if he's truly where he needs to be. He's underappreciated and many take him for granted. This last song is "I'm Still Here" from Treasure Planet.
