For the past few weeks, I have been playing the video game "Batman: Arkham Knight" on my PS4. First of all, I would like to point out that Batman is my absolute favorite super hero and has been since I was practically a toddler. So, you could imagine my excitement when I saw that they announced this game at last year's E3 convention. I have played all three previous Arkham games and was very, for lack of a better term to describe my state of mind, psyched upon purchasing my copy at my local GameStop store.
Once I got home, I immediately opened the box, removed the disc and fed it into the drive of my console. After that, I spent about three weeks playing the game. In my opinion, the game is a work of art. It has beautiful graphics, some of the funnest missions you'll ever play and the most captivating storyline of all three games in the trilogy.
The game opens to the scene of a police officer sitting down at the bar of a local diner. It's very obvious upon him entering that he is very well-known in the restaurant by many of the other regulars and staff. Shortly after sitting down, a customer comes up to him and asks if he would have a talk with the man at the corner booth of the diner. The policeman gets up, walks over to the man at the booth, and begins to speak to him. Immediately after the first word comes out of the officer's mouth, the man releases Scarecrow's nightmare gas, causing the whole restaurant to have horrible illusions and killing each other because of it. The whole ordeal is caught on camera and broadcasted on all of Gotham's public screens. Scarecrow then appears on the monitor and explains that he will soon release what he calls his "fear toxin" on all of the city.
Not only does the game explore Batman's past, and many abilities gained from it, but it also explores the caped crusader's state of mind, emotions and psychological difficulties. Throughout the majority of the game, Batman is haunted by the last bit of Joker still haunting him from the events from the previous game. So, to say the least, Batman is, throughout the game, scared for not only the city of Gotham's safety, but for the first time, his own safety. The game is amazing because it not only makes the Dark Knight an even more complex character, but it also delivers fast-paced action, adventure, and, at many times, mental challenges that Batman must face at many points during the game.
So, if you are thinking of having a game to play to take up some otherwise unused time this summer, I would highly recommend this game. It has action, adventure, drama, and, believe it or not, even some good comedic moments in it. All in all, I give this game an 9.5 out of ten. Happy gaming, fellow students.
