Living In A Small Town

In This Article:

If you're like me, you love being from a small town. However, if you are someone who is dreading going back home for the summer, this list can definitely help you out. Being from a small town myself, I totally understand that they can be boring at times. Since I am from a small town, I have had to learn how to get creative when it comes to finding things to do for fun. If you follow this list, you are guaranteed to have a memorable summer!

Take a road trip with friends

road trip with friends

When there is nothing to do in your own town, the best thing to do is drive to another one. Over summer, there are so many music festivals that would be so fun to experience with friends. When you take a road trip with your friends, you create such a strong bond with them. What could be better than traveling and getting closer with the people you are already closest to? Although a road trip might only last a couple of days, the laughs and memories you experience are guaranteed to last a lifetime.

Paint a canvas

canvas

This one is so easy because all it takes is a canvas and some paint! This activity especially works for a rainy day. Grab a group of friends and paint cute canvases to decorate your room, apartment, or dorm. Even if you have no artistic ability (like me), it's still fun to see what the finished product is. Painting is also a great way to relieve stress. Turn on some chill music and see what kind of creative paintings you can come up with!

Do a scavenger hunt around your town

A small town is a perfect place for a scavenger hunt! It's so convenient because chances are you probably know how to get around your town and are familiar with where everything is. Scavenger hunts are also great for when you're bored because they take up a lot of time. You can put one of your friends in charge of getting all the objects that your group has to find. Another person could be in charge of making up the clues, and someone else can be in charge of creating a map. Scavenger hunts are so fun and it's always great to have a little friendly competition!

Swim (duh!)

pool party

This might seem obvious, but a pool party is a perfect way to have fun over summer. Make a whole day out of it by bringing out some corn hole boards, a volleyball net, and some barbecue! I know I definitely would not be bored at a pool party like this. What's better than having fun with friends, tanning, winning a corn hole/volleyball tournament, and eating some great food? Nothing!

Movie night

popcorn

If your town is so small that you don't have a movie theatre, this is perfect for you. Not only is it free, but you can watch as many movies as you want! You get unlimited free popcorn and other snacks all in the comfort of your own home. I honestly cannot think of anything better. Invite your friends and watch the scariest, funniest, or most romantic movies you can find! This is a guaranteed good time.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
