Watching movies is not just something that you do to pass the time. It can be something that you do because you planned it, or maybe you like your couch, or because it's your favorite movie and you are just obsessed with it. Everyone knows that people love to watch tv and sit in front of screens because that's what we do for half of the day. For me, watching a movie is almost a frequent activity, especially on the weekends. I do love going to the theater to see new movies as soon as they come out, but its too expensive to do it as often as I like to watch movies. Maybe I like movies more than the average person, but I just love the plots and storylines of my favorite movies. I basically like to think of it as a very enjoyable pastime.
Many of my favorite movies are based off of some of my favorite books. While I will admit that most of the time the book is way better than the movie, it's still a good movie to watch nonetheless. There are some cases though where I won't care to compare the book to the movie, like one of my favorites, The Great Gatsby. I'm actually talking about the most recent movie though. I love that book so much, I read it four times actually. But, I just enjoyed watching the movie and seeing parts of the book played out so much that I didn't care to think about which one was better, the movie or the book. There is also Leo DiCaprio to think about and Tobey Maguire was Spider-Man at one point, and he did a great job of narrating the movie. But, there are some movies that have been out for a long time that I haven't read the book for. A perfect example of this is The Devil Wears Prada. I absolutely love that movie and will never get tired of it, but I have yet to read the book. I'm planning on it this summer.
There are also some other favorites of mine that are even older movies like from the 80s. There may be a particular reason for that, since I seriously love that decade and a lot of movies from that time. Ferris Bueller's Day Off is a classic favorite of mine. The Goonies is such a funny choice. And The Breakfast Club is pretty much everyone's favorite, but maybe that's just a huge assumption. Movies from the 80s also seem to be the ones I like most when it comes to watching anything before the year 2000, unless if its a Disney movie. I don't ever seem to care for movies from the 40s through the 60s. I don't think I've seen too many from the 70s that I can remember. But, if it's before the 40s, don't even try to talk me into it. I never cared for the plots or the black and white ones too much. It takes a lot for me to not like a movie, but time period is probably a decision factor most of the time.
There are also two more movies I would like to add in here. Of course I have more favorites than just these seven, but these came right off the top of my head. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is such a good one. It may be linked to the fact that I like Kate Hudson's movies, including Bride Wars, or maybe it's because everyone likes Matthew McConaughey and that I do too. But, it's a choice I turn to when I just don't know what to watch and it's a good rom-com. And another new movie that has recently been added to my favorites is La La Land. I loved the movie when I had no idea what it was about and had never seen any commercials for it. And to add to the odd choice, I've never cared too much for "musical" style movies besides High School Musical or Hairspray, but I loved this one! I also love almost any movie with Emma Stone because she is such a great actor, and I think her movies can generally appeal most to adults from 18-25 respectively.
As I continue to watch my classic favorites and explore new ones, my enjoyment in watching movies will probably stick with me until the day I die. While I continue to watch those that I haven't seen and watch the new ones coming out this summer, I will always keep my favorites in the back of my mind. For me, watching movies on a rainy day is always a good idea, but I will admit that in the evening is best. TV shows are a whole other story, and boy do I have lots of those to talk about, but movies are always something that last as lifetime favorites that you will be happy to watch when you're old.
