3 Facts You Don't Need to Know But You Do
1. Albert Einstein slept 10 hours a day

Albert Einstein slept 10 hours a day

While that may not be an essential clue for his intelligence, it's still interesting to note that someone who sleeps more than you can accomplish more for society than you. His intelligence was so intriguing that Harvey, a researcher at Princeton Hospital, stole Einstein's brain when he died of a abdominal aortic aneurysm. Einstein's son was infuriated initially but settled on the stance that his father's brain could contribute to society; this consent allowed for researchers to disassemble Einstein's brain into multiple pieces which were sent to various institutions and locations in the U.S.

What was the result of the observations of Einstein's brain? The most notable is the larger than average corpus callosum that Einstein's brain had. The corpus callosum duty is the allow the two hemispheres of the brain to communicate - a larger corpus callosum may indicate faster or better transferring of information between Einstein's hemispheres. There are other " abnormalities" to Einstein's brain that encourages developments of hypothesis about the brain. Even when Einstein's brain isn't functional, he is still contributing to the scientific community - what a superhuman.

The Alaskan Tree Frog - The "dies in the winter and comes back alive in the spring" frog

Yeah, you did read that right. This type of frog has a trick to surviving the winter when food is scarce. This frog allows the winter to freeze its body. This means that its blood stops flowing and its organs stop working. In the spring, the frog's body thaws and its organ is back on the grind. This contradicts what happens to other organisms when their bodies freeze. For instance, humans die when we freeze - this is why our mom makes sure we have our jackets when we go outside in the winter. So what makes this frog defy what other organisms face when confronted with the deadly cold?

To answer this question, we have to unravel the reason why organisms die in the extreme cold. When blood is in the process of freezing, it forms these ice crystals. These ice crystals are able to cut through blood cells and other cells which basically means the organism's life is cut very short. The Alaskan Tree Frog is able to counter this by using glucose. The glucose is able to prevent the formation of these ice crystals by increasing the freezing point. Yes, this is cool ( please laugh at the pun).

Lack of sleep kills a human faster than starvation

Please don't try this at home. I'm just going to explain the effects and you can just trust it. Without sleep, the body experiences hormone imbalance, hallucinations, and weakness in the immune system. In continuation of lack of sleep, the immune system will continue to get weaker to where bacterial has an easier time killing you. This was found to be true when rats were deprived of sleep and died of bacterial growth in their body. If the bacteria doesn't kill you, you might yourself. Studies have suggested that driving sleepy is very similar to drunk driving (this is a short PSA to not drive when you're sleepy and/or drunk).

Furthermore, lack of sleep is also linked to obesity, diabetes, and strokes. There was once a man that stayed up 48 hours watching FIFA and died from a stroke. This shows a correlation between sleep and stroke ( this is another PSA to not stay awake for the FIFA when we know that Brazil is going to win).

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
