I don't like “political" news stations.
Yes, in some regards, it's highly necessary.
Without it, we wouldn't be able to have a constant spread of knowledge. Without it, we wouldn't be able to recognize certain people and places that are safe for marginalized people as well as recognize places that are unsafe. There are a lot of reasons why our society operates better as a society with these stations.
Mainly, because there are thousands of people who constantly rely on these places to be able to make their own assessments. There is almost a scarily following these stations gain… in which they: absorb, process, and in some cases, use this information (or "information") to simply verify and back their own ideologies.
See how it's scary yet?
Although, most places have credited sources in which they display for millions of people to hear: there exists human error, there exists added (and sometimes, unnecessary) commentary, and moreover, biases.
You have these news anchors—who are rarely diverse- though, ironically, are employed to talk about diverse national and international disasters, hate crimes, and injustices on a multitude of people and all the while, provide statements and, underlying messages of highly problematic content.
Descriptions that intentionally pull on heartstring and pathos to push propaganda and mainly reflect thoughts that a “majority" might have.
Segments include what we've seen in the interaction earlier in the year on CNN on New Day, wherein anchor Chris Cuomo was eerily quiet on Houck's racist remark on Black people's “proneness to criminality".
And you'd have to ask yourself : why would CNN choose to host someone like this and expect a well rounded and logical debate.. if you weren't going to challenge his hating belives then what would drive this… can you say “Race- Bating for views?"
People who include Sean Hannity, Emily Austen (“I didn't know Mexicans were smart"), Rick Sanchez and the list goes on.
This blatant disrespect, and the ease of hiring these people who support this homogeneity, us versus them is instilled in the totality of the world.
How can you expect these people to give you the news that is supposed to educate if the middleman him/her/themselves are corrupt and have toxic beliefs?
And trust me, these industries know who they are hiring. They knew about their racism before, during and after they graced their face on the air.
Question everything. Trust no one. And always triple check the sources. Moreover, make an educated conclusion for yourself, because “for the people, by the people" in this nation and many others is highly conditional.
And it may not include you.
