From The Outside Looking In

A change in perspective goes a long way

From The Outside Looking In

The speed increases, the wheels go up and you're off. Flying is getting from point A to point B in a respectable amount of time.

You might fly all the time, you might not–I don't know your life. But have you ever looked out the window while taking off in a plane? When you're at the point where you haven't reached the clouds yet but can view the entire city you're departing from? It's incredible. It might be the most underrated thing in the world. Aside from a crepe I ate one time, but that's a whole different story.

Although you might not appreciate it, just take a second to think about it. As I took off on my flight leaving Dublin, it was 6:55 a.m. As we entered the sky I looked out my window. All I could see were little specs of light all around in the darkness. Those little specs of light were people's homes.

It puts life into perspective in a way. Each dot represents a house, each house is a home to someone out there, and these people all have their own lives. They have their fair share of daily obstacles and issues as well as things to be happy about. It makes you wonder what each of these "specs" life is like if you will.

From the outside looking in things are never as they seem. From the outside looking in you don't know nearly as much about people's lives as you might think you do. We only know what we see on social media and hear through the so-called grapevine.

Pictures can be deceiving and people keep things to themselves so they don't have to burden others with their problems. That's life, so I guess it's our responsibility to keep an open mind when viewing other people. We are outsiders to them as they are to us. We only know what they want us to know and nothing more.

I can't help but wonder what those people on the ground are doing while I sit in this airplane. Some are fast asleep, others are working night jobs just to get by, and some are out enjoying themselves. Everyone's living their individual lives and all they are to me right now is bright tiny specs on the ground. But we both know they're so much more than that.

It's cool to know that everyone has their own story I guess. When you walk around cities or your college campus try to put your phone away for five minutes and take a second to look around. Take in all the people who pass you by. Think about how each person you pass has their own life, goals, problems and so on. Think about everything you have gone through and how chances are you don't wear a shirt that lists all of your current life problems.

Everyone's fighting their own battle that you know nothing about. Everyone is merely a spec of light on the ground as you fly through the sky.

The higher you go, the closer you get to the clouds and the quicker you pass those small specs of light by, only to forget about them in an instant. We're so worried about our own lives, we typically forget that we aren't the only ones who experience the hardships of life.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
