8 Things That Every Adopted Person Wants You To Stop Saying

Being adopted comes with mixed feelings, struggles, and an abundance of all things great, but more than anything, it comes with questions and really ignorant statements. I never thought that being adopted would expose me to questions that I thought didn't need an answer. That changed as I got older, and my eyes were opened to how many things that people don't "get" about adoption. So, from an adopted kid to you, please, for the love of God, stop.

1. "You're adopted?!"

This has to be my favorite question to be asked, HANDS DOWN. This is mainly due to the fact that the question always follows after I've told someone that I'm adopted. Like, "No, I'm lying. I'm not adopted, I just wanted to see your reaction!". YES, I'M ADOPTED.

2. "So, like, your parents aren't your real parents?"

I hate to break it to you, but my parents are 100% my parents. They're my parents because they raised me and love me, but if you're talking about genetics, we share no DNA. I kind of thought that was a given when it came to adoption.

3. "Do you like being adopted?"

I mean, it's not like I had a choice in the matter. But, yes, it's the best thing that could have ever happened to me. PLEASE stop asking me this, because I don't know how it feels to NOT be adopted. It's the only thing I know, and honestly, I'm glad.

4. "Adoption is expensive. You know that right?"

Oh, I know. Are you implying I'm worth every penny? Because my parents sure think so. *cue hair flip*

5. "Did your biological parents not want you?"

I'm not explaining this in detail even if you ask me, but no, that's not the case at all.

6. "I've never met anyone who's adopted."

Ehhhhh, you probably have. They probably just didn't tell you to avoid THIS EXACT SITUATION, kind of like the fact that now I'm wishing I didn't tell you either.

7. "So where are you actually from?"

Here...The United States. Sorry if you were hoping for something more exotic, but this is all ive got.

8. "I just dont get it."

And I just dont get your questions, but here we are.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
