Some people say that high school is the best time of your life, others say it was when you were a kid and didn’t have to worry about a single thing. I personally think that college is the best time of your life.

In college, you have one responsibility: you, yourself, and you. You don’t have to answer to anyone, you don’t have to take care of anyone else (unless it’s your friend getting way too drunk), and you don’t owe anyone anything.

In college, you can party until the break of dawn. You can party with alcohol. You can party in pools. You can party from 10am till 10am the next day. You can pre-game the pre-game and then go to the tailgate and not remember who won the game. And guess what, no one can do anything about it. But, if you’re anything like me… you can also choose to turn up the jams, put your unicorn onesie on and drink a whole bottle of wine with your best friends while you bake cookies. But the best part, you can party… whenever you want, however you want, with whoever you want.

In college, you get the opportunity to do internships and get hands on experience in the work field in which you hope to achieve a lasting career in when you finally graduate. But, do you know what is also acceptable? To sit on your couch and do absolutely nothing. There are going to be days when you feel like doing nothing, want to eat cookie dough and binge watch Netflix… and in college, it’s still okay to do that.

In college, you can have friendships ranging far and wide from each end of the country and beyond. I currently have friends in Michigan, Philadelphia, Nashville, Florida, California, Colorado, and even London… I can probably continue but I’ll stop there.

In college, just like having friends in different places, you also have the chance to study in a different city, state, or country as well. You can go as far as you want or stay as close to home as you want. You can travel the world at a way cheaper price than you would if you waited until after you graduate. You can experience different cultures and enjoy different people.

But most importantly, in college, you can go home to a good meal and your mama's hugs whenever you need to. College is NEVER too far from home. And when you need a little pick-me-up and some time close to family, they will always be there for support.

That’s why college is the best time of your life.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
