"What we're really talking about is a wonderful day set aside on the fourth Thursday of November when no one diets. I mean why else would they call it Thanksgiving?" -Erma Bombech

With Thanksgiving approaching, we often have much to look forward to. Often it's getting together with our families, our friends, and/or our relatives. We often begin prepping for a feast early in the day. This feast may feed countless at our tables, and allow for leftovers to be fought over. If you are a New Yorker, you may even begin your day by watching the Macys Thanksgiving day parade on television while your food bakes in the kitchen oven.

However, has television somehow measured what the American standard of Thanksgiving looks like?

We begin our evening when those we invited begin to roll in. These people often include, children, family, our goofy friends, our cousins, and any other individual that may hold some sort of value within our lives.

Then we have that one individual whose only there for the food. He/she hasn't really contributed to the dinner, but shows up intending to eat for free. We love them, so we end up feeding them. It is the holiday after all.

As the night begins, we become impatient with all the food out. The smell drives us crazy. It allows us to dig right in.

Food? When there's is food on the table, everything tastes good. We can’t deny that the food that's available to us is going to be bad. Because custard, jam, meat, as long its good what is there truly not to like?

When everyone's at the table, we often may worry about that one bad cook in the family. We often eating this persons dish, as we may fear that the food may not sit well with us. Thus, we may not even touch the food they make.

Seconds. The seconds are the best. The dishes that are the best, we always want more. For me its the desserts. I LOVE DESSERT. Thus I will never deny a second serving of the sweats that are available at the table.

Often times, when any large group of people sit down at the table we may often have disagreements, arguments revolving many topics. These talks may revolve around our jobs, politics and sometimes the bad and good times that we may have faced. However we make it through the night with our bellies full and walk home in sheer happiness.

At the end of the night, we leave the night with thoughts of the next holidays. We must prepare ourselves for Christmas and New Year. We have to get ready yet again to reconveine with the family before the year ends. Thanksgiving reminds us of the people we have in our lives, during which we can appreciate all the things we have in our lives.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
