As an avid Netflix watcher, I’ve watched my fair share of series on Netflix. Most of which I will pick up here and there and not really watch all the way through, but "Friday Night Lights" was a different story. I was hooked from the start. Whether it was from the Texas, country accents or the attractive football players, here’s why I loved "Friday Night Lights" and the lessons anyone can take from this series:
Football, country music, and a cold beer can unite anyone
That sentence basically sums up "Friday Night Lights" and a good amount of the American population. To most people there’s no better “feel good” Friday night combination, which makes "Friday Night Lights" an all around feel good show.
Family comes first, no matter what
Family is a common theme in this show and reminds you how no matter the obstacles you face in life your family will be there to back you no matter what. No matter how abandoned Matt felt by his dad at times, he still loved him regardless.
A southern accent and a truck will easily win over a girl’s heart
Tim Riggins: Example A.
Tami and Eric Taylor set the expectations way too high for your future marriage
The fact that their marriage is completely fictional is besides the point. I officially will not be satisfied unless my marriage is as perfect as Tami and Eric Taylor. Their undying support for one another is something every relationship should take notes on.
When your family fails you, your team has your back
Like Tim Riggins in the show (who was raised by his alcoholic brother) he found shelter and family in his teammates and friends. When our family isn’t there we find family in those who support us the most.
Southern charm and hospitality never go out of style
“Yes ma’am” and “darling” never fail to melt a woman’s heart and that’s something that Matt Saracen and Luke Cafferty used to their advantage in the show; and it definitely worked. Not to mention the way Tami and Eric Taylor were always hospitable and offered up their home several different times in the show to people in need.
Life can change in an instant
You learn this in the first episode when Jason gets seriously injured on the field. You never know when things will take a turn for the worse but those who love you the most will stand behind you no matter what.
Girls love a hardworking, determined man
True, Tim Riggins is a heartthrob, but Matt Saracen and Luke Cafferty are the real catches in the show. They worked for every penny they had and were humble about every accomplishment that they achieved. They’re definitely winners in my book.
High school isn’t everything
In high school, Trya didn’t have the best reputation and was on the track to be a waitress for the rest of her life, but with a little help she worked hard and made it to college and rose above her high school reputation. High school is only four years of your life, and who you were then isn’t going to be who you are for the rest of your life.
We all wish we had a Tami Taylor to give us daily advice
At times, Tami Taylor was the heart of FNL She saw the good in everyone no matter how bad, and gave her time and help to anyone who needed it. She always spoke her mind, but did it like a lady. And of course, she was drop dead gorgeous.
Money, good looks, and athletic abilities won’t always take you as far as you’d like
Just like Buddy Garity couldn’t buy a state championship and Tim Riggins looks couldn’t get him every girl, there’s more to life than the superficial things.
Never underestimate the underdog
One of the major themes of the show was how hard work and discipline can take you to the top. Never underestimate the underdog, you never know when they could sneak up and steal that state ring right out from under you.
Be a man of little words
Guys can take a lesson from Eric Taylor. He never really said much, but what he had to say was always important and spoke volumes even if was just a few words. Sometimes saying less is actually more.
Cowgirl/cowboy boots can complete any outfit
Cowboy boots are definitely a trend that every state should pick up on, not just Texas. As "Friday Night Lights" goes to show, they look good on everyone!
“Texas forever”
Okay maybe not necessarily Texas, but what they really mean is “your hometown forever”. Where you grew up and the people you grew up with will be apart of you forever. It formed who you are and you wouldn’t be you if it weren’t for your hometown roots.
