To My Freshman Year Best Friends
Gabrielle Galusha

I know, I know, I know... all of you reading this are probably so tired of seeing articles about college friends leaving for the summer. But would I really be basic if I didn't jump on the bandwagon? How can I not?

Freshman year was a huge adjustment for me. By the time first semester came to a close, I was ready to drop out of my university, come home and go to the local community college. Boy, am I glad my mom wouldn't let me.

When I came back for the second semester, my building was having a social to welcome everyone back to school. I messaged one of the girls on my floor (who I had never spoke to a day in my life) and asked if she wanted to get dinner and then go to the social together. We instantly hit it off, and the rest is pretty much history.

Three weeks after I messaged her, I met my next best friend. I went from living a quad with three girls from the town next to me to living in a double with a girl on the same floor that I had never spoken to. I thought to myself, "what if we didn't get along? What if it was my old situation all over again?" I couldn't help but to wonder what living in this new room would entail.

Man, oh man, did we get along. We were "two peas in a pod", as some may say. She welcomed me with opening arms, and I couldn't have been luckier.

So, to my two best friends in the whole wide world, thank you so, so much.

Thank you for hanging out with me constantly.

Thank you for the constant laughs.

Thank you for the late night Subway runs.

Thanks for watching me trip over the rug and knock over all the dishes, sending them across the room, and falling to the floor laughing with me.

Thank you for helping me when I have my mental breakdowns before finals.

Thank you for being my home away from home.

If it wasn't for you two, I wouldn't be at this school. I would have given up and gone home. My freshman year did a complete 360 when I decided to go out on a limb and message that girl on my floor.

I am so incredibly lucky to have both of them and I can not imagine where I would be without them.

Room 420 will always have a special place in my heart.

For any incoming freshman that are nervous about making new friends in a new big university, it may take a while but I promise that you'll find your people!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
