11 Wild Things I Heard Freshmen Say During The First Week Of Classes

In This Article:

One of my favorite things to do on a nice day back on campus is to walk around and take in the enjoyable weather. However, walking around without your headphones once in a while proves to be very entertaining when catching a few weird sentences in a passing conversation. The most interesting conversations are usually heard from passing freshmen during the new school year as they wander around campus with different will thoughts. These are just some of the conversations I picked up on this first week back at university.

1. "If you're going to bring marshmallows to an 8 a.m., you might as well share."

I don't know what class these girls were in or why the other student brought marshmallows for breakfast but they do have a good point here. Sharing is caring.

2. "My teacher said I need a clicker?"

I laugh because this was something I asked the bookstore clergy as soon as I saw it on the required materials list. He laughed then too.

3. "Can I use flex to by my textbooks?"

A lot of schools have meal plans for there students and at my school specifically, flex is additional money put on a card to help students buy food at places other than the dining hall. So I'm sorry to the young freshmen that asked this but no, unfortunately, you cannot.

4. Snoring

This was more of something I saw rather than heard. Not even the third day of classes and there was already a student sleeping in the hallway outside of what I assume was her class. This year is going to be a long one.

5. "Someone snuck a puppy into the dorms and I am determined to find it."

I wish I still lived in the dorms because I bet I would be joining this person on their quest for a cute puppy to pet.

6. "People were knocking on doors on my floor so I turned the lights off and pretended I wasn't there."

I suggest not doing this. As bad as the timing could be or silly as the idea is, try getting to know the people on your floor. It will make your first year an easier transition.

7. "Why do I have a class at 6:30 at night?"

Welcome to college! Where class can start at 8 a.m. and end at 9 p.m.

8. "My teacher won't let me have my laptop, how do I take notes?"

I get if keeping up with teachers notes in class can be hard but if a teacher is requesting you take notes the old fashion way with pencil and paper then chances are they won't mind slowing down if you ask them to.

9. "I'm going to see how long I can last without a tutor."

If you are struggling, do not be afraid to ask for help. The longer you wait, the harder it will be for you to actually find an available tutor for your specific subject.

10. "What's the dress code?''

Ah college, allowing you to have creative freedom with your wardrobe choices.

11. "I already pulled an all-nighter and class started yesterday."

Please never feel that the only way you will pass college is to pull all-nighters. It will only have negative effects on you in all areas so try your best to time manage and rest well.

These little snippets of conversation may have been entertaining at the time but it is still important to remember you are not alone in your college experience and to ask for all the information you need in order to make yourself succeed in this new chapter of your life.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
