Fall is here and with fall comes holidays of care and giving, as well as cooler weather. One way to give back to your community and care for those around you is to help the homeless. Here are four ways that you can provide help to people in need.
1. Care Packages
If you have the time and money to do so, you can construct and hand out care packages on your own. This can be as simple as keeping a box of packaged crackers to hand out. Here is a list of common items that you could put in a gallon-sized bag and put in your car.
- Tube socks
- Maxi-pads
- Peanut butter crackers
- Tuna and crackers
- Water bottles
- Fruit snacks
- Kleenex
- Hand wipes
- Bandaids
- Toothbrush/toothpaste
- Comb
- Chapstick
- Nail clippers
- Hand-held heater packs
- Fast food coupons
- Bible verse
2. Blankets
- Purchase two colors of
felt , and measure them into equal squares, big enough for a throw blanket. - Cut
three-inch slits along the edges of both squares of fabric every other inch. Then, cut out the squares on each corner where the slits meet. - Once you are finished with all four sides, combine the two squares of fabric by tying knots between each cut piece.
3. Donations
4. Volunteer
Instead of providing supplies, you can always volunteer your time. Take a trip to local shelters and check out organizations to help provide for those in need, such as collecting donations, organizing inventory, or helping with events.
