Being away from home is not easy. I miss my family, my friends, my hometown, home-cooked meals, and, of course, my dog. Fortunately, Fordham has made this transition to independent living a lot easier. The following is a list of all of my favorite things on campus that make me happy that I am a student here.
1.) The Buildings- As I walk around campus, rushing to my classes or strolling to the dining hall, I always appreciate the old Gothic-style buildings. Scattered throughout campus, they give the University a historical look. I always love walking into Keating Hall, a particularly pretty building on campus, to go to my English class.
2.) The Writing Center- Located in the Walsh Library, the Writing Center is a free facility for students attending Fordham. Volunteers read and help you revise essays for classes which I find to be a very helpful tool.
3.) Eddie's Parade- Located in the center of campus, Edward's Parade, is Fordham University's grassy quad area. Perfect for chilling with friends, studying, or sunbathing, Eddie's is definitely a plus!
4.) The Jesuit Influence- As a Catholic institution, Fordham University follows Jesuit principles. Although not at all overwhelming, there is definitely a religious presence on campus that encourages spiritual development and academic growth.
5.) The Professors- So far, my experience in classes here have been very positive, due largely to the qualified and understanding Professors. All prepared to offer help and answer any questions, my professors have made me feel welcome and comfortable as I transition into my first college courses.
On that note, I encourage prospective college students to check out Fordham and see what it has to offer. You may find, like me, that the campus is beautiful, the people are friendly, and that the opportunities are endless!
