They understand that there is "no tradition more worthy of envy. No institution worthy of such loyalty as The University of Georgia." There are many things you can do on game days, but being a local here are my favorite traditions that you should definitely check out before you graduate.
1. Tailgate at Meyers Quad
At 6 a.m. every gameday fans flock to Meyers Quad to claim their spaces for tailgates. A lot of fraternities recently have chosen this as their game day tailgate spot, and that has made it so much better for students. Meyers is also where SEC Network broadcasts SEC Nation once a year, and where ESPN's College Gameday has been known the film. There's also someone you'll probably know set up there, so give it a try.
2. Witness The Dawg Walk
Another tradition that students should take part in is the Dawg Walk, which happens before every home game. Thousands of people wait at the bottom of Lumpkin and Baxter to see the football players enter Sanford Stadium, which is located by the Tate Center Parking lot. The Dawg Walk always happens 2 hours and 30 minutes prior to kickoff. It's awesome to witness all the electricity that's in the air with fans cheering and the Redcoat Band playing the alma mater.
3. Calling the Dawgs
Once your inside the stadium with 92,746 of your best friends you should be a little riled up. One of the most known traditions among students is calling the dawgs. Before every kick off, simply raise your right hand above your head, and wave it screaming "Gooooo Dawgs! Sic 'em! Woof! Woof! Woof! Woof!". The chant is used at all UGA sporting events, but personally I find it the best when yelling it between the hedges.
4. Light Up Sanford
One of the coolest experiences you'll ever witness is at the start of the 4th quarter when every fan in the stadium shines their phone lights waving them up and down along with the band's battle hymn. It is truly incredible, and I highly recommend staying towards the end of the game to experience this rather new tradition.
5. Ring the Chapel Bell
After every Bulldog win you should head straight to the Chapel Bell on North Campus to ring it. It's one of the oldest traditions here at UGA, and definitely one of my favorites. Be aware, you might have to wait in line but it totally worth when you get to ring the bell yourself. If you ever get to experience an SEC Championship or National Championship win you should be ringing the bell all night long, and probably most of the next day.
Personally, these are my top 5, but there are so many others that you can participate in. Remember, you are attending the greatest university in the country, and also the number one college town in the country so take advantage of these great experiences while you're here/
