New year, new you! Am I right???
No?
Some habits never change: we all need some soul food every once in a while. But, in keeping with your new year’s resolution, you may have to do some sneaky finagling to fit your fav foods into your new meal plan.
Here’s how I’ll be justifying my not-as-healthy decisions in this new year.
1. Pizza
If you think about it, pizza is really the ultimate meal. You’ve got your grains to keep you full and satisfied, your cheese to provide the dairy and calcium component, and your pepperoni to pack that protein punch. If you’re feeling really wild, you can even get a buffalo chicken pizza — send your protein intake through the roof. Or maybe peppers or broccoli on top?? Such health. So “eat the rainbow”.
2. Spinach pizza
Even more nutritious, throw some spinach on there and call it a day. A delicious and nutritious way to get your greens. You may have to eat the whole pizza in order to get your daily serving. But hey, we all have to things we don’t want to do. In the name of health.
3. Ice cream
Ice cream is a go-to for calcium. With 84 mg per serving, it’s really almost comparable to milk’s 305 mg. Basically the same. To get the full effect though, three servings of ice cream is recommended. At that point, it'd be silly to leave one serving sitting alone and sad in the bottom of the pint... so it's okay to finish that too, probably.
4. Queso
Paired with some nice, fresh vegetables (corn tortilla chips are just a suggestion), queso makes a nourishing snack. Full of fats to keep you nice and satiated throughout the day. Definitely add some tomatoes or lettuce bits to the top for more well-rounded, healthful nachos.
5. Brownies
Cocoa powder has antioxidants. Antioxidants are great for preventing free radicals and making your skin look vibrant and beautiful. It's safe to say that dark chocolate brownies would be the most healthy, but regular chocolate will do in a pinch. Better stock up while you can, there are rumors that cocoa could be going extinct.
6. Sweet Potato Pie
Never mind the added sugar in sweet potato pie. The benefits of sweet potatoes HAVE to outweigh the downsides of sugar. I mean, they're filled antioxidants, fiber, vitamins, anti-inflammatory properties, and more! It shouldn't even be classified as a dessert, it's practically meal-worthy in itself.
7. Cake
This one is the hardest to justify, but it has one saving grace. Eggs. Eggs = protein. Protein = healthy. Cake = healthy. Simple math, folks.
8. Cheesecake
There are 5 grams of protein in each packet of cream cheese. Need I say more? #GAINZ
You don't need a reason to enjoy a tasty treat, but hey, it doesn't hurt. Fill your year with whatever foods make you happy and some foods that make you healthy and you'll do just fine.
