Some people love their jobs but others don’t. Some people like to volunteer and some don’t. It’s just how they are. I believe that everyone should have at least one job within the food industry. There’s many reasons why those jobs are a menace to many people, but there are some good reasons for them.
I think everyone should have a job in the food industry because those are the jobs that teach you how to use your social skills. They help teach you how to interact with other people in a professional manner. I’ve always been shy. I’ve always been the person who would never go up to anyone else, that they’d have to initiate the conversation. When I worked in the food industry, I worked at Panera Bread. I had to become used to talking to people, looking them in the eyes as we talked, and used a professional tone of voice.
I learned that some people aren’t very nice in the food business. That’s something that I think everyone needs to learn and understand. Occasionally, you’ll get the customers that yell at you and try to tell you how to do your job. You’ll need to learn self control and tell the customer that you’ll be with them as soon as you can.
I learned that, in the food business, you need to be able to think on your toes and move quickly. I was a barista and I always had to be thinking quickly and moving even faster. I also needed to know how to keep my opinions inside when people tried to tell me how to do my job. I know, it sounds awful, but I wouldn’t trade that experience for the world.
Most people want to skip working at a fast food business and go straight for the “real world” jobs, but it’s a great experience that I think everyone should have. Everyone needs to work on their people skills, being polite to everyone (no matter how rude they can be!), and learn how to think quickly in tight situations. It’s a great experience that everyone should have and it’ll be great to have the experiences going into the real world.
