As finals are coming to an end, everyone is feeling that huge weight being lifted off their shoulders, but not totally. You are most likely still freaking out about your shitty schedule for next semester, whether or not you're going to graduate on time, applying to grad schools, finding a job, paying off your bills, if you're going to be single until you're 60, if you're ever going to move out of your parents house, paying off bills and many more stressful things. All these things gets you to thinking of the best ways to avoid the stress, like dropping out of school and moving to a tropical island or playing the lotto 20 times a day until you win and many more creative ideas. Trust me you aren’t alone, we are all in this together so I thought I would share something, my friend shared with me, that made me feel at ease during this stressful time in our lives. The quote reads:
"I know people who graduated college at 21, and didn't get a salary job until they were 27. I know people who graduated at 25 and already had a salary job. I know people who have children and are single. I know people who are married and had to wait 8-10 years to be parents. I know people who are in a relationship and love someone else. I know people who love each other and aren't together. There are people waiting to love and be loved. My point is, everything in life happens according to our time, our clock. You may look at your friends and some may seem to be ahead or behind you, but they're not. They're living according to the pace of their clock, so be patient. You're not falling behind, it's just not your time." - Julissa Loaiza
After reading this I began to accept how true it really is. We all do have our own time clocks and we should never feel the pressure of what society deems is normal. Look at all the successful people in the world like Walt Disney who didn’t discover the character we all grew up with today at the age of 27 and didn’t start building the “happiest place on earth”, Disney World/Land, until he was 55. Taylor Kitsch who was once homeless but now is mostly known him as “Tim Riggins” (or the sexiest human being to walk the earth). Rocky Marciano who didn’t even start boxing until he was 20. Vera Wang who was a figure skater and at the age 40 found her passion for fashion instead.
Look at their time clocks and look at their outcomes. You might feel sometimes like you want to give up, but never give up. What if Walt Disney gave up? There would be no happily ever afters or fictional characters to dress up as on Halloween. Don’t give up, because you have a purpose in life, you just haven't found it yet. So to all my fellow peers, friends, family and even strangers, you have purpose in life and you may not find it today, tomorrow or ten years from now but that's just because your time clock isn't there yet.
