Do You Follow Your Head Or Your Heart?

Sometimes it’s funny to think about the discrepancy between the two; the heart is hope, the head is realism.

So, are you led by your head or by your heart? That is an age-old question if ever there was one, and one of those rare questions where everyone you ask seems to have a very automatic response.

Do you make your decisions based on what your head tells you or on your heart wants?

People led by their heart are usually romantics; I’ve noticed that they tend to trust their gut and follow their instincts which rarely lead them astray. In my observations, these tend to be the people who trust things to somehow “work out” and worry less about the details of how they are going to get there. You know, the writers, singers, and poets of the world.

People that are led by their head, on the other hand, tend to be more analytical, logical, and come to conclusions based upon the evidence that is presented to them. In other words, the mathematicians, accountants, and historians of the world.

If the heart is dreaming, the head is planning. The head believes in hard facts. Being someone strongly led by my heart, I've always marveled at the ability these people have to be decidedly logical.

Sometimes it’s funny to think about the discrepancy between the two; the heart is hope, the head is realism. The heart is living your life on instinct, and the head is living your life on evidence. It’s something that I am reminded of every time that I hear myself say, “Trust me, I have a gut feeling this is going to work out,” and I know that people who are led by their head have to take a step back to ask, “Yes, but what steps are you going to take to make sure that is the case?"

The head and the heart complement each other but are rarely found in the same person, I have observed. People led by their heart will always follow their gut because no matter how hard they fight it, they will have that eternal hope, that unparalleled intuition. And people led by their head will always follow the evidence, being inquisitive enough to go beyond their gut inclination and look for even more proof.

One is not better than the other; they are simply different. Which are you, head or heart?

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
