There's One Thing You Should Make Time For In College No One Ever Mentions: You

A lot of us go off to college and know that the bar is set extremely high for us. Whether our parents are paying and really want us to graduate or we are paying ourselves and aren't sure how we are going to make it, we are all here to get a degree.

When you get to college, you are probably splitting your time between the same 4 things everyone else is splitting their time between: school, work, sleep, and socializing. Me, personally, if I'm not doing school or working my job I am probably sleeping or resting, aka lying around binge-watching Netflix.

And I know that this is the same reality other people have! I didn't have any problems with this lifestyle until I felt like something was missing. We are paying so much money do get this piece of paper that so many people covet, so what's wrong with living like this?

When you go into college, you become invested in your school work, your jobs, your friends, and relationships and don't leave much time to yourself. Whether you want to admit it or not, you are attending college for yourself.

Something about earning your degree and learning about whatever field of study you choose means something to you. College is for many people also about the party scene, clubs, and the freedom that comes with leaving home. There isn't anything wrong with any of this; however, because of all of these exciting things, we tend to lose sight of what we really need to be focusing on in college: Ourselves.

College should be a time of doing more of what we love.

Most of us don't love doing homework 24/7 or making ourselves be apart of the party scene even when we feel like doing something else. Do you see where I'm going with this?

Doing what we love doesn't mean loving naps and TV watching when you have free time, this means dedicating time to doing something that you love or being involved in something that you are passionate about. I 100% recommend always making time for rest and breaks, but I 110% recommend making time to explore yourself and really evaluate what is important to you in this life.

We focus so heavily on career paths and degrees that will make us the money we need to survive and gives us the social status we crave. And at what cost? Not pursuing something you love because it doesn't pay what you want or isn't respected by as many people?

When we lose sight of what keeps us excited, of what gives us joy and of what inspires us to move forward, then we are setting ourselves up for failure in the future. You can turn your passion into a career, that's how different careers exist today!

College is the time that you should be exploring more of what you love and focusing on what you want in the future! Follow your passions and get to know what really motivates you.

Now is the time to pursue your wildest, craziest dreams. Act like it.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
