Smart phones are pretty cool. You can check Facebook, Instagram, your text messages, email, anything else you can think of in a matter of minutes. It's a great way to stay connected with as many people as possible, as well as giving you the opportunity to look anything up that your heart desires. If you want to know how many gallons of water make up the Colorado River, I'm sure Google can tell you.
However, there are some disadvantages to having these smartphones. Youth these days don't have the memory of their first phone being that little flip phone that everyone had. The power that came with angrily flipping the phone shut when you hung up on someone. How you had to wait until you had access to a computer to Google random questions, or hope that somebody you texted knew the answer. The flip phone had its benefits, even if it couldn't do as much as the smartphones these days.
The battery on flip phones was phenomenal. I used to charge my phone maybe once a week when I had a flip phone because it lasted so long. Even if I didn't charge it that often when it was low on battery I still knew it would last a while. Nowadays, if you don't plug in your smart phone every night it'll be very low in the morning, if not dead.
As mentioned before, there's a lot more passion that can come with a flip phone. Angrily tapping your smart phone to hang up isn't as fun as slamming your flip phone shut. A fun pastime for me was flipping open and shut my phone when I got bored. No need for downloading games; I was set with the phone itself.
Flip phones were so strong. Unless you threw it at a brick wall ten times and were attempting to break it, they were almost impossible to break. Smartphones get dropped an inch from the ground and crash into a million pieces.
Even though flip phones were pretty cool, there are definitely benefits to the advancement in technology that smart phones have brought. Smartphones bring a bigger variety in looks with phone cases. You didn't even need phone cases with flip phones since they were so strong. It's great having one device that can hold games, music, and anything else you like with you. Flip phones were a good start, but I'm definitely happy to have my smartphone. But let's start making them small enough to fit in my small girl pockets, please!
