With the recent exit of Britain from the European Union (and because of lesser interest in my last article), now seems as good a time as any to talk about the financial state of the United States. The ever-growing deficit is a problem that should be addressed sooner than later, and our Presidential candidates do tend to talk about it from time to time. It's one of the biggest components of why I currently support Trump over Hillary (although, if you read my other articles about the candidates, you know a few of my other opinions, too), and supported Mitt Romney is his bid for the Oval Office. Keep this in mind, though: any short-term plan you might be promised by a politician will probably fail.
It has taken decades for the United States to accumulate its burden. Yes, recent presidencies have substantially raised the bar on this burden. However, the solution is not so easily created. Tax breaks; tax hikes; spending cuts; spending increases; it all seems so simple. Increase the revenue of the United States to match and exceed the the costs of being a country. In many ways, it is like an overly complicated business. As a business, we are sinking. So, what does it take to patch the holes in the hull?
Outsourcing labor is a big issue here. Major corporations outsource to other countries for their workers because the labor laws (if they exist) allow for much cheaper costs to the company. If there was a way to make the goods, or the transport of the goods here, much less cost effective, companies would be compelled to hire American workers (Gasp! Unemployment could be helped some too??) to fill the positions here. This gives Americans spending money than can be, and already is, taxed by the government for more revenue. Also, all the exports that we have would still go out of the country, and that money still comes back into the US coffers.
Does this simple fix completely restore everything that needs to be restored? Not even close. This is a very simple baseline idea that could help us restore the economy over a long period of time. I am no expert in economics, but it just seems like a common sense thing here. If you have different ideas for what could work in the long run, or even a short term fix, leave a comment below. If you wanna start a lively debate, go ahead; political discussion, advancement, and compromise is what could really make America great again.
