Five Things We Can Do To Bring Back The Joys Of Childhood

As we have grown up, many of the things we used to do for fun as children have fallen by the wayside, and some of the magic in our lives has been lost. Here are five things we can do to recapture the brilliance of our younger days.

1. Play in the woods

I don't know about everyone else, but when I was younger, playing in the woods was the absolute best. You could pretend to be anything. A knight, a soldier, a spaceman, a giant panda; it really didn't matter. If you let your imagination run wild, you could be anywhere and do anything. Of course, this concept could be applied to anywhere outside, but there is something particularly magical about being in the woods, which brings us to our next point.

2. Explore "undiscovered" areas

As a kid, did you ever explore a place and feel like no one had ever been there before? It didn't matter if it was actually a high traffic area of the world, because, in that moment, you were the conqueror of a new land! The woods, previously mentioned, were a great venue for this type of activity. When you climbed up a tree and surveyed your new domain, the feeling of power and freshness you felt was unparalleled. Move over, conquistadores.

3. Re-read your favorite

I am not talking about the most recent dystopian nonsense. No, I am talking about the good stuff. For me, my mind leaps to "Harry Potter." The movies seem a recent memory, but the last book came out nine years ago! June of 2007! So, in reality, we have been out of the wondrous world for nearly a decade. Another excellent series to pick up is "The Chronicles of Narnia." I would recommend "The Lord of The Rings," but it is a chore to read those. Honestly. Pick a nice, easy, fun read from your childhood. "Doctor Seuss" is totally fair game. "A Series of Unfortunate Events," "The Magic Treehouse," whatever fits the bill for you. Just read it and remember why you loved it. It will seem childish, but if you read it like you are a kid again, you will love it.

4. Go to a park

When was the last time you took some time to sit on a swing and close your eyes? To experience the thrill and the fear of being high in the air and not knowing what was around you? When did you last sit on a bench and feel the breeze in your hair, or just go down a slide? Granted, the slide isn't designed for someone your size, probably—they usually have an age limit of 12.

5. Cook something for your parents

Did you ever try cooking something as a kid? Did it turn out pretty badly? Did your parents find it cute? Well, now you are an adult. if you still live at home, try cooking your parent(s) dinner. This will help you to relive one of the most important things of all—doing a nice thing for your family.

These are my five recommendations, but I bet there are a ton of other things you can think of yourself if you put your mind to it. I would love to see what you think in the comments below!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
