It’s finally that time of year again. After the worst week of college, we are all set free to go home for a few weeks and just relax. No matter if you are driving an hour or flying across the country, these are the five stages we go through every holiday season.
1. Complaining About Traveling
Whether you are driving or flying, traveling is the WORST, especially during the holidays. Crazy drivers, long TSA lines and everything in between can take a toll on the best of us. Sometimes, you just need to text your mom, best friend, or significant other and just unload on them all the stupid things that are driving you crazy. We all have people we can complain to and we have learned who will give us sympathy and those who will not.
2. Taking A Picture Of Your Travels
You are all settled in to your seats (or as settled as you can be on a packed Boeing 737) and you somehow snagged a window seat. Time to take the perfect, Instagram-worthy snapshot of you flying over a state with perfect clouds and a blue sky. If you are driving, you find yourself at the state line and are ahead of schedule. Now’s the perfect time to take a picture next to your state sign, probably doing the “high school musical” jump. Everyone need to know that you are almost there.
3. Eating Your Favorite Food
For some tragic souls, our favorite place to eat sometimes doesn’t exist where we go to school. My nearest In-N-Out burger is 3 hours away from campus. Back home in California, it’s maybe a ten-minute drive. So as soon as we get home (or on our way to home), we stop at our favorite place and pig out! Of course, it has to be documented (via Snapchat) before we can eat it at superhuman rates. No matter if it’s Chipotle, Whataburger, Shake Shack, or some other variant, cheers to us and our patience!
4. Seeing Family And Friends
There is no better joy in this world than running into your family’s arms after several months apart. You swear everyone seemed to have changed even though you haven’t been gone that long. Nothing is better than the reunion of your family. And then there is your best friend, who seemed so far away, sitting right in front of you. Hugs are shared, tears may be shed and good times are remembered. You feel as though time stands still for moments, allowing you to take in all the love and happiness that surrounds you. Especially if you have a pet at home. There is nothing better than looking at your dog’s face lying on the living room floor at midnight or snuggling with your cat on the bed.
5. Relaxing
You did it. You made it through another semester, another round of crazy dates and great friends and another round of finals. That’s it, you’re home free, with not a care in the world. Sleep in, pig out, have a Netflix marathon. Do whatever you want! You deserve it! Relax and enjoy every moment you have.
