The day has come. You skipped class to make sure you could buy tickets right when they went on sale for the perfect seats to see your favorite band. You feel as if you have waited your entire life for this show. And then something you have waited so long for comes and goes. Now you are left with a hole where all that excitement leading up to the show resided. You my friend may be suffering from PCD, or “Post Concert Depression.”
There are five common stages of PCD.
Over excitement
You are pinching yourself to make sure you are not dreaming. The adrenaline is coursing through your veins and you don’t want to leave the venue to admit it is over. The band was even better than expected. Yes, they sang your favorite song just for you. Yes, they totally locked eyes with you during that romantic lyric and you will get married like you have dreamt of many nights leading up to the show.
Shoving the band in others' faces
Your Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook are filled with poor quality snippets of songs and of you with your friends screaming along. You have told every person you’ve come in contact with how great the show was. Music videos have been shared and if you could afford it, you would stand on the corner handing out CDs to strangers as they pass so they too can enjoy this fabulous band.
Refusal to accept it is over
You sit in your room in your $45 t-shirt from the merchandise table (totally worth it) rewatching your Snapchat story from that night. You can’t decide if you are crying tears of joy that you were able to see your favorite band or tears of sorrow because the night you dreamt of for years is now over. Maybe if you play the CD three more times you’ll be transported back to that night.
Acceptance
Your concert tee is finally washed, your ticket is taken out of your purse and thumbtacked to your wall and you urge yourself to move on. You are thankful for a night of fun and excitement that you’ll continue to reminisce about for years with joy.
Excitement over new tickets
OK I know that was totally your favorite band and the best show ever, but this is your new favorite band and you got pit tickets on your birthday at your favorite venue. The countdown begins and a new cycle of excitement begins.
