Past The Time With These 5 Short Stories

Here are some feel-good stories to enjoy.

1. I Should've Listened

The sunlight was bright. But not the kind of warm, welcoming light you would expect to wake you. No, it was the hot, glaring kind of flare that struck you with an unbearable weight of heat and sweat. I woke up with that weight on me. That and a pain so sharp it could kill a person. A source could not be identified because it seemed to come from everywhere. I was on fire in pain and the sun only made it worse. It was hell on Earth, it had to be. I only wish for my death to be swift and soon.

"Abigail Smith, how many times have I said to put sunscreen on!"

2. You!

I stared into the eyes of the beast. It stared back. It was just as alert as I was. Such quick reflexes. But, not as quick as me. I crept up slowly to it. It was a face off. A game of chicken. No, a match between equals! Yes! I recognize it as my equal! Yet, only one shall stand!

*THUD*

"Mom! The cat ran into the glass door again!"

3. It's My Time

Me! Me! Pick me! I've been waiting for this moment! The day I would get picked. It's been some long years. Then, after a bit of maturing, I was brought here to be chosen. It wasn't easy getting here. I was crushed by a lot of people. I didn't know why at first. If that wasn't bad, what was left of me was stored away. That's when I began the process. Now, the time has come.

"What kind of wine should we get for the party?"

"Oooh, white sounds good."

4. A Race Against Time

I have to keep running! Faster! Faster! No stopping now! Never stopping! Always going! Always running! Running fast! Really fast! Always fast! Never slow! Slow is not fast! I run fast! Really fast! Water! Need water to run! Need food to run! Food! Munch! Run! Gotta keep running! Always running fast!

"Dude, does your hamster ever calm down?"

"NO!"

5. Unrequited Love

I love you. I love you so much! You take really good care of me and you always spend time with me. Some of the other ones, I heard they get left behind like nothing. Sometimes for days or forever. But you wouldn't do that to me and that's why I love you. You always try to do things that would support me and I support you, too. At least I try to. I know sometimes I can be temperamental and picky. I know you can get frustrated with me and say mean things. But when I fall, you're there to pick me up. And that means the world to me. Do you remember that time when I broke my face? And, you paid for it to get fixed? It's times like those that let me know that I matter to you. I love you so much.

"When are you finally going to get a new phone?"

"I don't know. I can't afford a new one right now after getting the screen fixed."

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
