Like many other people, I am a book lover, an avid reader, and an overly obsessive book collector. While being in love with books has its ups -- getting emerged into a world other than your own and going on adventures with out leaving the comfort of your home -- it also has some downs and you will face some giants a long the way.
1. So many books to read, so little time.
I have a long list of books I want to read before my time ends on Earth, and the moment I think I narrowed down my to-be-read list, I hear about another book that I want to read from Goodreads or YouTube. Then, a week later, almost 50 books are added to my to-be-read list. There are just so many books I want to read, but there are only so many books I can read at one time.
2. You have an overflow of books on your bookshelf.
I have accumulated so many books in my 18 years that between my tall bookshelf and my short bookshelf in my room, and my small bookshelf in my dorm, I am starting to run out of room. Instead of reading the books I already have, I tend to find more books I want to read; and instead of just renting them from the library or borrowing them from a friend, I buy more and books. There is just something about the way a book with a beautiful spine looks on my bookshelf -- especially when a whole series is lined up one by one on your bookshelf.
3. You go into the bookstore for one book and come out broke.
I normally go into a book store looking for one book from a series I am currently reading, and then I see more and more books that either have pretty covers or have a synopsis that intrigues me. I end up buying almost 10 books instead of just the one I came in for. Do not fear, though, because I normally buy them from the $3-$5 section at Books-A-Million or from a used-book store.
4. Your books collect dust, because they have been on your shelves for almost a century.
Instead of focusing on the books I already own and narrowing down the books on my 10 to-be-read shelves, I buy more, and then instead of my to-be-read list decreasing, it increases massively. Then, the books I have had for years and years get neglected and abandoned on my shelves while I read the newer ones.
5. You are indecisive about what to read next.
As the to-be-read list grows and grows there are way too many books to choose from. Instead of reading a book; we are constantly thinking about and changing what we want to read next. Then, by the end of the month we only read about one book.
While being an obsessive book lover has its problems, there are so many more things that make me glad that I am a book lover!
