You are what you orange.

5 Musts On A Syracuse Bucket List

It’s that time again, orange nation. As the class of 2017 comes back to the hill, priorities have to be put in place. We’d like to say we have done it all, but honestly, there are some things that can only be left for senior year. What will be on your bucket list? Here’s a snap shot of mine for your inspiration and pure entertainment

1. Be the first to Chuck’s and the last to leave.

Oh, Hungry Chuck’s. Who are you? Why are you always hungry? These are the questions that haunt me. By getting to Chuck’s first on any given night, but more likely Thursday thru Saturday night, maybe these questions will be answered. Honestly, I can’t think of a better way to spend a night than grabbing the least sticky booth, having a round of Sea Breeze and enjoy some fried mac n’ cheese with my best friends. You’ll find me in that booth when Chuck’s opens and I won’t leave until it closes.

2. Climb the water tower.

If you haven’t already, then you need to get this one done. Climbing the water tower is like a right of passage at Syracuse. Once you have been up there, you will never be the same. Actually, you might be the same, but you will take the one picture that will get you the most likes on Instagram and Facebook. The ladder might not be there anymore, but we’re orange nation. Nothing can stop us.

3. Eat the Infamous James Brownie at Funk 'n Waffles.

The James Brownie. Truly the crowning achievement for anyone at Syracuse is to eat this entire brownie waffle with vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce and whipped cream. I plan on fasting for two and a half days to build enough hunger for this colossal waffle.

4. Make the campus Snapchat Story.

This may be a tough one, orange nation. Syracuse celebrities have been born because of our campus snap story. Do you have what it takes? My advice: either become really good friends with someone who makes it regularly or just be as original and creative as you can. The first is probably your best choice.

5. Take Otto to formal.

I am convinced there is no better date than the orange himself, Otto. Who wouldn’t want to take Otto to formal? I’m not even talking about the guy in the suit. If you can actually get Otto, in full SU regalia to come to you formal, then you my friend don’t need to complete the rest of the bucket list; you have won the Syracuse experience.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
