Netflix-it’s a blessing and a curse. Yes, it’s instant shows movies at your fingertips, but the selection isn’t always what you’re looking for, and I find this especially true when searching for movies. It’s like the Marshalls of movie selection. You can never go on the site with a movie in mind because you will almost always not find it, but you can find some pretty stellar movie choices if you spend enough time browsing the site. I’ve taken a look at the selection of movies on Netflix to enjoy when you have way too much free time over the holidays and here are the five best movies I have found. So, curl up your hot cocoa, fuzzy blanket, and golden retriever, or at least that’s what i’ll be doing, and enjoy these classic movies on Netflix.
1. The Santa Clause
I had to include a holiday movie as the first choice. This is by far the best Christmas movie on Netflix. Honestly, this is one best Christmas movies ever made if you ask me. I like that this movie is older (made in 1994), but not old enough to be out of style. It's clever and heartfelt and unlike any Christmas movie before it. I love a good 90s movie.
2. Titanic
Okay, honestly, you need to carve out some time for this one, but what better time of year to waste time than the holidays. Winning the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1998, The Titanic is cinematic genius. I enjoy this movie mostly for its' love-story like plot, but it also has thematic elements of an action-adventure movie as well as historical relevance for those more interested in that. If you haven't seen it, you're most certainly missing out.
3. Tarzan
My next movie is one of my all time favorite children's movies. But for a not-so-child anymore, I still find watching this movie incredibly enjoyable. My favorite part of any good Disney movie is the soundtrack, and this movie soundtrack captures the plot in its entirety. I would hope this wouldn't be the first time you have seen Tarzan, so my advice is to watch it again this year. It's a timeless classic.
4. The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
This is my absolute favorite movie on Netflix. It features an incredibly creative plot. For those who have never heard of it, it's not a movie it be missed. This movie doesn't even try to be for everyone, but it will pierce some of you right in the heart. Give it a shot. Eternal Sunshine is fresh, heartfelt and ultimately heartbreaking in its honest portrayal of a modern relationship.
5. Pulp Fiction
My final movie to watch when you have some time over Christmas break is Pulp Fiction. This movie is witty with an engaging plot that will not disappoint. The movie was considered one of the most influential movies of the 1990s.
