I absolutely love food. If you ask anyone that knows me, they will openly say that I am an adventurous eater. Since I have moved to Lincoln, I have seen the more progressive and unusual array of foods that one would not typically see in the state of Nebraska. I have compiled a list. Mind you, I am not in any way a food critic. I am just a college student that enjoys trying pretty much anything. The following list is my five go to restaurants in the beautiful growing city of Lincoln, Nebraska.
1. Honest Abe's (854 N 70th st. Lincoln, NE)
Honest Abe's is all you have ever wished for in a burger, and more. A fun environment with welcoming staff, this restaurant embraces odd combinations and toppings in a way I never thought possible. It also provides a rotating menu of burgers that are abnormally delicious and very different. If you are not really one to try exotic burger toppings such as: roasted grapes, seared salami, cinnamon cream cheese or pickled apples you are not out of luck! "The Greatest Burger Ever" Is your classic American Burger. But for the more adventurous, the "Hammer Of Thor" burger, is a 6 oz patty, chipotle cream cheese, grilled brussels sprouts, bacon mayo and pepper jack cheese. Their special side of "truffle fries" are an experience in themselves. A meal at Honest Abe's will cost you $10-$11 dollars, but it is fully worth it!
2. Sebastians Table (126 N. 14th Lincoln, NE)
Sebastian's Table is under the same ownership of Honest Abe's , Ground Up Restaurants. However, Sebastian's Table offers more of a formal dining experience served as Spanish Tapas. For those of you that don't know, Tapas is a type of dish, deriving from Spanish Culture acting as large appetizers and snacks for a group of people. You will spend more money at Sebastian's Table, but it will be worth your while. I am not kidding when I say that the brussels sprouts here are the best vegetables that I have ever tasted in my entire life. The menu items are meant to be shared with your table, and will not disappoint.
3. This next one is a tie between Ali Baba Gyros, (112 N 14th St, Lincoln, NE) and The Sultan's Kite (1311 O St, Lincoln, NE)
Both located in the heart of downtown Lincoln, they offer a great Mediterranean fix that I crave so much. I decided to put them into the same category because they are both really good at what they do. If you are going to The Sultan's Kite, get the Chicken Tiki Korma. It is perfectly tender chicken breast cooked in a hearty tomato sauce served over rice. You then get a side of greek potato, a side salad and your choice of sauce. If you are going to Ali Baba Gyros, follow the title and get one of their gyros. The meat is perfectly seasoned and cooked, and the amount of food you get pairs with the price you pay perfectly. Both of the restaurants have great customer service and give you a taste of the Middle East right here in Nebraska.
4. Ming's House (1409 N Cotner Blvd #103 Lincoln, NE)
Ming's house does classic Chinese food right. The best thing about the menu is the lunch special. Available 7 days a week from 11am-3pm. For the low price of $5.49 you get your choice of entree, a side of rice and your choice of crab rangoon or egg roll and a drink. The delicious food is more than enough for one meal and will be sure to have you coming back!
5. Bison Witches (1320 P. St. #100 Lincoln, NE)
A quick and easy sandwich shop with the feel of a successful and social pub. Bison Witches has a great selection of gourmet sandwiches and beers, with a daily happy hour that will please beer drinkers and Sandwich eaters alike. The menu is compiled of hot sandwiches and soups that would suit anybodies tastes. The $2 daily pints are quite the plus as well. I highly suggest Bison Witches to anybody visiting Lincoln, as its food, drinks and atmosphere run together perfectly.
